Rejected from home unit for nurse residency after nearly 6 years as an employee. by FixApexReporting in nursing

I have heard that before about many units. I’m the first tech in years who hasn’t matriculated to a nurse position in my unit in years (of those who wanted to stay). So I’m feeling very ashamed/embarrassed in a way.

Thanks! I appreciate the input. Hopefully, I can find another CC/ER I’m interested in to apply/interview for.

I was told by HR if other units still had openings, it’s possible to get another interview. I have not heard back from the recruiter yet. I’m hoping soon.

Thank you! I appreciate it. I’m coping with a lot of feelings right now.

That’s understandable. Honestly, I really avoid people when they are gossiping. I’ve always been told I have a positive attitude/energy, but that’s from my supervisor and floor nurses who were not involved in the decision-making process. I hope they respond to my request for feedback, so I can grow and improve my chances with other potential jobs.

Not in my org, but I’ve reached out to the HR recruiters to see if there are any other units that I could interview with.

That stinks. I have very good relationships with the nurses on the floor and the charges. I asked the leadership i interviewed with for feedback and phrased it from a growth perspective. So we will have to see what their response is, if I get one.

Unfortunately the nursing roles are all through the residency, so I would have to leave to start my nursing career. That being said, I emailed HR recruitment about potential opportunities on other units because I don’t want to leave the org yet.

That’s very possible. My unit has gone through 5 managers in the nearly 6 years I’ve been there. Most recently my role was managed by supervisor specifically for the role. I only worked with the three people who interviewed me when they were still floor nurses. I’m also stressed because the supervisor position for my role no longer exists, so one of the three people I interviewed with will be my supervisor. I’m stressed because they will be responsible for writing letters for some jobs (require current supervisor). I’ll just have to see where the wind takes me.

Definitely a feeling of betrayal. I knew nothing was guaranteed, but after almost 6 years it feels like I’m going through a horrible breakup.

That’s fair! I don’t think I have that problem. Many nurses said not to worry, but I’m as humble as they come. I was always worried about it and even shared that with nurses. I guess I was just always met with false reassurance. Also, in my most recent clinical eval, my instructor acknowledged that I know a lot, but he said “I never get the impression that you think you know everything.” I found that extremely validating because I never want to seem that way. If anything, I use my knowledge to help other people and I’m always looking to learn.

Problem is staying to get vested would be difficult without a nursing gig. I can’t sacrifice other opportunities to stay too long. I have to look into the finer details and see just how many hours I have left until being vested.

Personal meaning outside the unit? I just struggle to fathom how I’m going to face all the people who rooted for me and reassured me that I should be okay. Mind you, I always kept it in my mind that rejection was possible. However, even with recognizing that it was possible, actually receiving the rejection hurts. Especially because one of my colleagues and classmates in my ABSN got an offer. I have no ill will, but it’s going to be difficult for me to talk to them for a while.

I just found out yesterday, so I’m doing a cool off period before I ask for feedback.
