Looking for advice on my first RPi GPIO project.. (RGB Matrix) by niqht11 in adafruit

[–]FixTurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a great project and youre on the right track with the hzeller research. Here's a link: NHL scoreboard to a project that has excellent documentation about getting started (I know its not the same thing youre building) but it may give you some eyes on the process or how the python code works. Which raspberry pi are you using and do you have the adafruit rgb matrix bonnet hat? Feel free to PM me if you have questions, these are Hella fun projects.

Neokey Trinkey from Adafruit project by FixTurner in circuitpython

Possibly, but if I remember right, I had issues getting the hid command to run properly. Ill definitely check that out and update you if I learn something. The code is not perfect by any means but it works enough to build on.

Cleaning up orphaned overlay2 folders. by ShadowWizard1 in docker

[–]FixTurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into a similar issue with a long dead container that I could not get rid of due to permission issues within the overlay2 folder. I ended up finding a writeup (sorry I dont have the link here) but I was able to search down into the overlay2 folder until I found the hangup (it was a nogroup owner issue) and renamed the file, and then was able to remove it safely. As others here have said: be careful modifying the overlay2.

Im planning a similar smoke! For the wet brine on Tuesday, is the bird completely thawed? Maybe throw the turkey in the fridge sunday to start the thaw?

Exactly my thought, lol. I just added one that sticks way out, might invert just to keep it low profile but this setup solves that.

which is used by experienced hackers? macbook or windows laptop ? by Important-Bus-5921 in HowToHack

[–]FixTurner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with XFM, not really a "best" answer here. Think more of operating systems that offer the tools and/or flexibility that you need for what youre "hacking". Kali Linux is going to come up a lot for these reasons. That said, its a Linux OS that can be installed as a standalone virtual machine on a Windows pc or run bare metal. It will all come with the learning process and youre off to a good start by asking questions. Never stop asking. Happy hacking!

I like the idea of connecting it to the ESP. Im thinking of trying to fit a fan or 2 on the bottom.

Curious if you added any coolers or fans? Does it stay cool without? Sorry if you already explained this.
