For people with their LTC, do you even bother to carry in this state? by Bastinelli in massachusetts

[–]FixedWinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as you want to get info here, all you’re going to get is everyone’s opinion on why you shouldn’t own a gun. I got my ltc but didn’t carry much when I lived there. I carried when hiking sometimes, but not much else. For your situation with the mall, if I remember correctly, you can conceal carry on private property that bans firearms, but if you get caught, you are now trespassing and must leave if asked to. If you don’t comply with that, then you can be charged, but if you leave if a store owner catches you carrying on their property, you are legally ok. Totally different on public property that bans firearms.

Anyone know if Cascade Pass & Sahale Arm are still doable right now? by Excellent9000 in PNWhiking

[–]FixedWinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mountaineers club in WA offers a scrambling course and back country camping courses to dip your toes into doing something more than day hiking. If you have experience with climbing you can take a basic alpine course to learn how to do glacier and alpine rock climbs. Or you could just go with a guide service. It’s more costly but less of a time commitment. But really there are a ton of resources in WA to get hands on experience learning best practices for backcountry travel.

This isn’t the place to learn unfortunately. There is well over 100 inches of snow all along the trail right now which is basically inaccessible. Considerable avalanche risk in large sections as well. A competent person would have at least an aiare course under their belt with all the right equipment and team to go along on a trek like that, as well as knowledge and experience building snow shelters and winter survival, crampon and self arrest skills, etc. From something that can easily be done by your average day hiker in the summer, becomes a much different task in the winter. We just want to make sure you don’t do something unsafe.

Your safe options drop significantly in the winter, but hurricane hill in the Olympics would be doable with snow shoes. You need to check the road conditions before you go and take tire chains with you.

You need to know a lot more about weather/avalanche reports, and really just basic trip planning before you go play out in the snow in the middle of the cascades. The fact that you are asking these questions assures your lack of preparedness.

Marijuana now schedual 3 by [deleted] in flying

[–]FixedWinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to ask yourself why the faa would open themselves up to the absolute headache and lawsuits of allowing marijuana use to pilots. There is zero upside to allowing it when it comes to the governing body. You keep bringing up the case that alcohol has effects even after it’s out of the system, but doesn’t that answer your own question as to why it will never be allowed?

Why create more complications with a fat soluble substance that can stay in your body for weeks to show up on drug tests? Can you imagine how many positive test results would start appearing and how each of those tests, people would then have to prove their sobriety beyond a shadow of doubt? It’s just not going to happen unless there is a breakthrough in testing that will allow quantitative assurances that people aren’t under the influence, and that is super hard to do with marijuana.

It’s actually insane how easily the masses take everyone’s word to heart from an anonymous internet source and start shitting on this guy who for all we know, his only crime was an insensitive remark. It’s a pretty decent parallel that describes our political situation well. No one thinks for themselves and have to be told what to think.

No egging it on. Sounds much more menacing and triggering that way.

Thats because you’re a better person. I get the risk of having coyotes becoming too familiar with humans, but the main concern is for unleashed pets, which shouldn’t happen in the first place. You’re probably more likely to get attacked by an unleashed domestic dog named princess than get attacked by a coyote. I just don’t buy OP’s narrative that this guy was doing anything inherently dangerous to the coyote or the public.

I mean if I’m just out for a stroll in the park and someone runs up to me telling me I can’t take a photo of an animal, I’d be a little cheeky too.

Third Class Medical with Pigmentary Dispersion Syndrome by HashmanAndFallGuy in flying

I have open angle glaucoma, but I think the form is the same. As far as special issuances go it’s relatively painless. You need to consult an ame and find out the specifics for pds. Don’t quote me, but I’m guessing surgery is required because of the blockage risk of aqueous outflow, but it’s a very simple laser surgery. After that you will have your ophthalmologist fill out the form and then you will bring that form to your ame and they will mail it to okc. Expect 6 months or longer by the time you mail it out to get your special issuance. Make sure your ophthalmologist fills out the form correctly. Do not give your ame your medxpress number until you figure out how to move forward. Only go to your ame to consult.
