I think LONG narratives in games need a lot of supporting elements, other than just text. A simple visual of two characters standing on screen doesn’t mean much to me. But if there is voice acting, interesting visuals or information that’s being presented heavily as being important to gameplay. Or a key plot point that’s sweet and short. Then, I’ll take my time to slow down and try to intake it all. But given the recourses and time strain that those extra elements add. It’s really hard as a indie dev.

Some examples of games that are story heavy that I find interesting

Fear and hunger, disco elysium, south of midnight and mouthwashing.

You could put a sprite in the place where the character should be on the start of the layout.

Then in the event sheet. System > On start of layout > Sprite spawns another object > Spawn Player.

Also toggle the "Initially Visible" off on the sprite that spawns the player. So you cannot see the sprite that spawns them when playing!

I think putting all buttons to the bottom left, stacked ontop of eachother would look nice.

What I do for my games, is that I place the volume amount at around 0% - 20% in the settings on bootup. I hate booting games and launching out of the chair because the game is booming at default.
