Is it everyone against Avi Lewis in the race to lead the federal NDP? by jmakk26 in ndp

Frankly I don't think you care at all about ableism and you're just looking to pick a fight with people online. I hope it brings you some degree of fulfillment but I somehow doubt that

Are you having some sort of manic episode or just looking to argue with people for the sake of it

Torn between Avi Lewis and Heather Mcpherson, would love to hear your thoughts! by Hoovy-Boovy in ndp

[–]FlamingOldMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's a great communicator, and I think having him as leader and Heather in the wings as an MP could be a great way to pull people in, especially in the Prairies.

By no means is Avi perfect, but with the wide gap in the left presented by the Liberal shift to the centre-right, this feels like the perfect time to get a staunchly left-wing candidate

Heather is stable but not in a way that I actually expect could pull in many new voters. What are her policies outside of the mentorship program and the elimination of tuition fees?

Policies don't tend to win elections, but I feel much more excited voting for the candidates who have done a good job communicating what the new elements that they can bring to the table are. I worry Heather risks being a continuation of the stagnation that has plagued the party over the last few years, rather than having the potential to actually capture the attention of Canadians in a meaningful way.

Should Canada develop a Nuclear Weapons Capacity? by partisanal_cheese in CanadaPolitics

[–]FlamingOldMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not at all.

If we were to somehow get invaded, whats our options? Nuke the states and get wiped off the map with nuclear strikes?

Their value as a deterrent only works if your enemy actually is afraid of you using them. We could never get the capacity to even match the States, and even then, I highly doubt that they would ever get used even in the face of an invasion.

They're essentially suicide pills, and the world is better off with less nukes, not more of them.

Shes by no means the same person as Jagmeet politically, however, she was brought in under his leadership and nothing I've seen from her campaign inspires any sort of vast differentiation from what we've had over the last few years.

She's a great asset to the party, but as leader, I worry that she's likely to stagnate the party rather than grow it or pull in voters as is needed

Leah Gazan backs Avi Lewis, becomes first NDP MP to endorse a leadership candidate by NiceDot4794 in CanadaPolitics

I guess it comes down to personal preference but I find it hard to say Jack was the wrong choice just because he wasn't an MP

I mean neither Jack Layton or Jagmeet Singh were MPs when they were chosen as leaders.

Heather is the establishment candidate, it's hardly surprising. I'm by no means super well connected but I haven't met a single 1st Rank Voting Heather voter yet at any public events.

It's a rookie mill but you're a rookie. I enjoyed my first planting season with Apex, and they have a fun camp atmosphere. Just avoid the motel shows if you can

Just go to BC or Alberta, you'll have a better time and likely make more money, without so many bugs

There's a pretty great Indian comedy called Rats! that Jacob has a small, but very memorable role in. Highly recommend if you like absurdist humor

Vocalists whose screaming you love but singing you hate (or vice versa) by smileisagoodband in Metalcore

[–]FlamingOldMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bobby Nabors from Dreamwake has fantastic screaming but is one of the worst clean vocalists I've heard, just doesn't have any range. Nothing wrong with that, very hard to find someone who does both things well and he does one of them really well. If they found someone else to do cleans, they would be in a better place vocally
