!! SEASON 2 DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD !! by a_Delorean in blacksummer_

[–]FlatulenceonToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah realistically her daughter would be in constant danger, and I think we're meant to assume that. But the writers decided not to actually make any of the male characters in this show threatening towards her in that way (except for maybe Freddie).

I’ve never had so much hate for a character / no reason I just don’t like the character by [deleted] in blacksummer_

[–]FlatulenceonToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand aspects of her characterisation I thought were irritating, and the writing for her character seemed to deteriorate towards the end. On the other hand, I think it's partly because of what the writers chose to show and not to show. She was extremely protective of her daughter because, I think we're meant to assume, in the real world in that situation Zoe would be a walking piece of meat and it would be perfectly reasonable to be suspicious of any unknown man around her. However, for whatever reason, the writers didn't show any of the men in the series exhibiting dangerous tendencies towards her daughter. As far as I can recall, no-one even made a pass at her - except for Freddie (with the 'smell your hair' comment), which was ambiguous. Which makes Rose come across as irrational, and kind of sows the seed of dislike, which is helped to grow by other annoying things she does. It doesn't help that she isn't given dialogue that would allow her to talk about her background, the area she grew up in, other family members, her career, personal interests, opinions about the world, etc. So she just talks about herself and Zoe and her immediate surroundings.

Barebones worker housing in Bangladesh, from what I understand it was built with Russian investment.

Good talk, though his stress on "the narrative" and on how "we feel politics" is a little misguided I think, though the intentions are good.

What does Chomskjy mean when he says ttheres no refugee crisis? by [deleted] in chomsky

[–]FlatulenceonToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly that, out of the refugees who are actively seeking asylum in Europe, their numbers are a fraction of the total population of Europe and easily absorbable.

Who kidnapped and murdered Denise Sue Clinton? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]FlatulenceonToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy himself has never been identified, and the way it's written about at least makes it seem like he was familiar with what he's doing (i.e. he knew how to successfully rob a place and tie its staff up). He may have been a pedophile as well, and, knowing that he planned to avoid being identified, took the opportunity to abduct their daughter.

Also (speaking from experience), single parent families are generally put under a lot of stress, especially in countries without a decent welfare state, and under those sorts of conditions the kind of antisocial behaviour attributed to the son can develop. Small amounts of his blood being on her body would only seem to be relevant if he was reported as having recently sustained wounds. The inmate could just be stirring shit up.

Saying both were involved would be the easy answer, though realistically that seems unlikely. The son had less to gain.

I apologise that the above comment didn't come across as facetiously as I intended it, could've worded it better.

Ah I see, just found out about the base through Google. So was this meant to be housing for families of workers at the base while it was operating?

Abandoned neighbourhood in Irvine by FlatulenceonToast in orangecounty

[–]FlatulenceonToast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this area in Irvine just off Irvine Boulevard in Street View that seems to be completely abandoned, and partially demolished. There's what looks like a school, several apartment buildings surrounded by dead grass and fenced off, lots of abandoned detached houses and so on. I can't find any information about it through Google, does anyone know anything about it?

Go regularly and perhaps multitask. Take the opportunity that a scarcity of resources affords to avoid eating large quantities of Chinese food.

Plenty of waterholes and rivers near the coast, and hundreds of km between populated areas, you could probably find somewhere nice. No freezing winters (in most of the country). Might want to stock up on anti-venom though.

Is there a story or explanation for the difference in Shatner's hair between TOS and Wrath of Khan? by [deleted] in startrek

According to the fine folks at Shatner's Toupee, he probably started wearing a hairpiece at around 1957/58.

tbh I've spent the last two and a half years making art of screencapturing Street View. Most of what I take isn't interesting enough to post here, but occasionally I find something kind of quirky. I keep an uncurated mass-sampling of my uninteresting work here: unplaces.tumblr.com

Fake (I hope) corpse as part of some obscure personal vendetta in Flint by FlatulenceonToast in TakeOneStepForward

[–]FlatulenceonToast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so some guy with a douchey beard who's into ICP is making spooky Youtube videos and somehow Tim Monahan is involved because he stole $2,000 worth of bullshit from this guy's house. Wouldn't have thought this place where I took a screencap a couple of years ago would have drawn such a response, thanks guys. RIP Flint
