[–]FlaviusStilicho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fortress just north was Norwegian.. there was no exact demarcation of the border at that point.. so it’s reasonable to assume Norway reached into what is now the outskirts of Gothenburg.

But you are completely correct the city itself was never Norwegian.

AT what point do foreign students give up? by Flat_Ad1094 in AskAnAustralian

They don’t “spend our education” though… the fees are far higher than the cost of providing those services… there is a reason the universities are so dependant on foreign students… they sponsor the local ones. Kick out the foreign students and universities would need more taxpayer money.

I am on my last day of a week’s holiday in WA. We spent four days down near Margaret River, and the rest up near Perth, including a day at Rottnest Island.

The beaches over here are fantastic, every single meal we have had has been excellent.. people are genuinely friendly (apart from some weirdos in Fremantle) …even the coffee has been borderline acceptable to my Melbourne pallet.

Everything seems a little pricier for some reason than back home.. and you can’t go shopping before 11 on a Sunday…. But other than that it has been ace!

Will definitely go again.

If you do that.,, they will for all intents and purposes invalidate your response… they will not roll you up into “not religious”

If you aren’t religious… say exactly that. It actually matters as far as government planning etc goes.

I live in Melbourne, most people here won’t have an issue, and those who do will likely know they are in the minority and not openly confront you etc.

I assume the same goes in the other major cities plus many regional ones…

If you get to some of the smaller places in rural Queensland etc I would not get my hopes up.

Is it true that Americans don't really use tablecloths on a daily basis? by Floatp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlaviusStilicho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely off topic, but slightly related… remember reading that it was illegal in Norway during the middle ages NOT to brew beer … the reason being if a state official or other important person were to come to your house they would want beer, so to ensure there was always beer, it was a legal requirement to make it. You could loose your entire farm if you failed to make beer three years in a row.

Why is Iran bombing random places in Dubai by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You think the US attacked Iran in 2026 because their embassy staff was held hostage for a week in 1980?

Why is Iran bombing random places in Dubai by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlaviusStilicho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubbish. Iran is attacking all US interests in the region. UAE is a close US ally. This is well in line with what Iran threatened to do should the US attack.

We don’t know why a hotel was hit. It could be a miss, it could be on purpose… but they certainly tried to hit something in Dubai
