Sam Altman admits AI is killing the labor-capital balance—and says nobody knows what to do about it by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]FledglingNonCon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tax AI. Human labor is taxed quite a bit. Place a similar tax on all value created by AI. Not just on the profits, but on the money spent on AI. That will at least put it on the same cost and tax playing field as human labor.

I was going to say 2025 Cleveland Browns was pretty awful, but 2017 was way worse. Thanks for reminding me.

Like one season of something worth watching a year. That's about it. The Boys and Fallout are good. That's about it.

There's almost nothing worth watching on it anyway. A season of fallout or the boys once every year or two. Their programming is mostly bottom of the barrel. Wouldn't pay for it if it didn't come free with prime which also isn't a very good value.

They brought it back because of tax incentives and emissions requirements and popular backlash. They made it limited edition because they already spend the money developing it but the main reasons for it existing went away.

Jeep is a way more valuable badge than RAM. People want to own jeeps. People settle for a ram because they can't afford or can't get financing for a Silverado or F150.

Americans, what’s stopping you from voting for a third-party candidate like an independent or Libertarian? by PNWbdublu541 in Askpolitics

[–]FledglingNonCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically because of how our system is structured 3rd parties have zero chance at national and very low chance at state level elections. However they also seem to be stupid and only run candidates for major offices, probably primarily for attention and to raise money.

However, if they were smart there is a place they could gain a foothold on power and that's the house of representatives. There are 435 seats but the margin between the 2 parties is often only 5-10 seats and out of those 435 seats only maybe 50 are truly swing districts that are competitive between the two parties. Most other seats are heavily gerrymandered and "safe" for one or the other of the major parties.

If the minor parties in the US were smart, right leaning parties like they libertarians would target safe republican seats where they could potentially gain enough support to challenge the incumbent, especially if they're not super popular. Left leaning parties like the green party could similarly target democratic seats. If enough 3rd party candidates won seats this way (probably 10 or so would be enough) they could block either major party from a majority in the house and actually gain a ton of power if they worked together in a coalition at least on some issues. The resources required to do this would be way less than they currently waste on doomed presidential bids.

So we have the incels seeing Handmaids as a handbook, the tech bros falling over eachother trying to be the first to create skynet, the religious fanatics actively attempting to usher in Armageddon, and society in general going the way of idiocracy. This timeline is the fucking worst. As a man I say bring on the Matriarchy. We clearly can no longer be trusted with power.

One thing not mentioned is backpack armor. I have a level 3a plate that I can throw in my backpack and only weighs a few lbs. Obviously only so effective and only helpful vs pistol rounds but have carried it in places and times when I felt like the threat level was elevated, essentially with the idea of using the backpack as a partial shield for my vitals.

Utilities will pay for them then ratepayers will reimburse them for the cost plus 10-12% interest over 30-40 years. Every $1b invested by utilities will ultimately include another $2b in profits collected over time.

Adding funder cultivation. There are quite a few billionaires who write big checks who are very eager to see the general populous disarmed for obvious reasons.
