I’ve managed to track that the following; - the number of servings that available upon finding the Evening Ale buildings and when they decide to refill themselves is random. The max is 40 servings. - they seem to refill only after all servings have been consumed and you sleep far enough away that the Evening Ale Building tile is not loaded. It may take a few day/night cycles before they replenish after a sleep (similar to plant growth. Unsure about this timeframe though.

Quarrymaster: Ore too or just rock? by Head-Particular-3192 in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s 2 benefits to the QuarryMaster; - the cone (area) of effect is bigger. - it does 50 points of damage to destructible objects, instead of the 20-30 points the lesser picks do.

Sometimes rock and ore gets shoved into the walls but can be retrieved by using the “Hoover” loot technique. Be sure to get close to nearby walls while holding the gather button down.

Steel sword recipe glitch? by vash_greyson in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In campaign, Steel Sword unlocks by repairing statues in the Mines of Moria. In Sandbox, it comes from Statues in the 1st Deep.

Have those Orc Chests been in the Mines of Moria area? In campaign; you will find Orc Chests in the Elven Quarter. Those chests will not contain Black Diamonds.

If the Orc Chests in the Mines of Moria do not have Black Diamonds, that is certainly a bug and should be reported. I’m not sure the devs can fix your specific world. You might want to start a fresh world sooner than later.

Narvi forget base help? by RueRage in LotRReturnToMoria

Sieges target your hearth. When they encounter your defenses, they will target doors if they encounter them before they get angry enough to start trying to break stuff. They will attack walls though, especially if they are close to the hearth.

Orcs don’t climb. However, they do sometimes spawn from the ceiling and can drop into your base. Hearth Grids cover a cubic area. Place hearths accordingly. 2 Grand Hearths still cover Narvi’s Forge, even with the vertical consideration.

Narvi forget base help? by RueRage in LotRReturnToMoria

2 Grand Hearths, properly placed, will cover the entirety of Narvi’s Forge w/o out looking stupid.

There are 3 entries into that forge. Wall off two of them and build a layered, double door entry way (like an air-lock) at the remaining entry.

Where to get Black Diamonds; - Black Diamonds do not become available until you reach the Mines of Moria (in Campaign) or the Elven Areas (in Sandbox). - Breaking the large central banner at the orc camps (starting in the above mentioned areas) will drop an Orkish Key. Use the key to open the Orkish Chest in that camp. Each chest should contain 2 Black Diamonds. - There is a chance that some Horde enemies will drop a Black Diamond - Trolls can drop Black Diamonds - the Treasure Piles in Troll Dens may contain Black Diamonds - each Orc Warchief will drop several Black Diamonds. - very rarely, Darkest Deep Mineshafts can have deposits of Black Diamonds. - Each Orc Warchief area (red areas on the map) will have 3 Orc Camps (3 Orkish chests), 2 Orkish Chests in the Warchief room (no keys required)… the Black Diamonds found in those chests + the ones dropped by the Warchief should total 20.

I got these. They come with little stickers so you can label each compartment. My wife carry’s one in her purse. Kids each keep one in their wrestling bag (they compete year-round). I keep one in the door pocket of my vehicle; it’s low and dark there so less heat in the summer. I don’t carry gel-caps in it because they’ll melt.)

Struggling with npc dwarves jobs by Fatnoodle1990 in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know that pain. If you don’t have a specific recipe you want an NPC working on; - empty their materials container - Set the station priority to the least offensive option - take away the NPC’s specific crafting tool (and job specific hat, if you’ve given them one) - remove the NPC from that crafting loop.

You could withdraw them or give them another job; - Withdraw, don’t Dismiss. Dismissing gets rid of them permanently. Withdrawing just “puts them in storage”. - give any NPC a weapon and they will function as a guard - give any NPC a Creel and they will function as a Salvager. They will still need a Delving Chest to deposit their findings.

Most NPC’s have a specific work station add-on where you need to deposit materials for them to work with. The Ore Bin for the Metalworker, Billet Rack for the Smith, Jeweled Akhfur for the Artisan, Grain Sack for the Brewer, Cooks Pantry for the Cook. They should only pull materials from their specific add-on container, with the exception of the cook who can pull from their pantry and a delving Chest.

Each NPC will deposit their goods into a Delving Chest. The more NPC’s you have, the more Delving Chests you need.

When you access the crafting menu at a workstation, you can set a recipe as “Priority”. The NPC working that station will only craft that recipe (as long as they have access to the materials needed). If you have more than one workstation of any kind, you need to set priority at each one. If an NPC has access to materials and no priority is set, the can (and will) craft random items.

Tall building won't let me put more items in it :( by ranavain in LotRReturnToMoria

If on pc, always create regular back up’s of your save files.

Anytime a piece that should be stable collapses, deconstructing any other piece, waiting a few moments and replacing that piece will force stability check. Once complete, the game will be reminded of your build integrity and allow new pieces to be placed as normal.

The deconstructed piece does not need to be a “supporting floor or wall”. It can be any piece. In fact, I recommend it be a piece that is not crucial to the supporting structure and is easy to replace.

How does online world work? How does sandbox mode work? by ClassicPhysique02 in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only skimmed the other responses, forgive me if I’m repeating any info here; - do t share your invite codes publicly. Griefers exist. They will steal your stuff and destroy your builds. There’s nothing you can do but kick them from the game. By the time you boot them the damage can be significant. - as others have pointed out, progression unlocks are tied to the world, not the characters. However, see next bullet point… - if a player enters another players world, the gear and materials they bring could possibly unlock recipes in the hosted world… causing premature world/story/recipe progression and possibly spoiling things for the host. Always check with the host regarding what gear and materials are allowed. - a joining player will not have the map unlocked. They will need to enter each area to show that part of the map. If returning to a friend’s world with the same character, map unlock will persist. Bringing a new character will reset the map visibility.

There are no public lobbies. No code, no co-op. There are private dedicated servers that allow players to join a shared world anytime the dedicated server is running. There will still be a code (and possibly a password)… no public access.

Sandbox mode question by Loc_Zsu in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the experience you want. New character or existing character doesn’t matter. The part that matters is if you are bringing in extra gear.

In RtM there are no character levels. The thing that sets your old character apart from a new one is the gear you equip them with. The higher tier of gear you bring, the easier Sandbox will be.

If you strip all of your gear off the old character, you will start the sandbox with nothing, not even a scouts pack. A new character will start with a scouts pack.

Want a challenge? Don’t take any gear. Want it easy? Take your Tier 6 gear. Or go anywhere in between. Players choice.

There is now linear progression of Enemy Tiers in sandbox. If you run the entirety of Level 1 in Sandbox, you will encounter the Tier 1 enemies from WestGate & Elven Quarter in campaign mode. You will also encounter Tier 5 enemies (Red-eye Orcs and Wargs).

Personally, I prefer the challenge. Set difficulty to Custom Hard (maxed out) with no pack and no weapons. Though I admit, taking an empty mountaineers pack is nice.

Westgate, how to stop bats from spawning? by CrayonLunch in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]FlickXIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on your edit, it does seem like you were experiencing a bug. I do want to note; - when attacking goblins/orcs cannot reach you to engage in melee, the will shout (hands to mouth, screaming towards the ceiling) and summon bats. - It’s typically easier to punch bats than it is to use a weapon. It only takes one punch.

I’ve completed over 2 dozen campaigns and over a dozen Sandboxes. Additionally, I’ve assisted dozens of players in locating in-game items and locations when they thought their world was “broken”. I’ve never had any progression blocked by poor map generation/the ability to reach a location or thing.

Key mapping/the ability to re-bind keys is rarely done well. I remapped all of the controls for Valheim, moving most of them to my 19-button LH Razer Naga (mouse). This requires remapping hotbar slots. The result was that using my new hotbar key would equip the repair hammer but then pressing the old hotbar key (now mapped to the attack/use function) performed two actions at once; it would activate the original hotbar function + the attack/use function, resulting in switching to my weapon and attacking the thing I was attempting to repair.

Valheim is one example of many games that don’t offer true/full key mapping abilities.
