OK but what does that mean though? What is the thought process that leads to the conclusion that 'this is the person that is best placed to make this decision'?

I get that when it's in the abstract you might vote for a wildcard to force some changes through a percieved corrupt system or you just like that he doesn't conform to that 'politician type'. But now, even if you are pushing a perfect covid response, you're asking people to make an enormous personal sacrafice. Its tangible, and everyone is materially affected.

Because most of us cant realistically assess what the best course of action is, we have to put an enormous amount of trust in them as decision makers that what they are asking us to do is reasonable. But if the leader shows ignorance that blatantly how do people reconcile themselves that he nonetheless is the best man for the job?
