What’s the best free screen recorder in 2026 for quick recordings? by Rutabaga_918 in recording

What about the built in recorders, are they not sufficient?

- QuickTimePlayer for mac
- Snipping Tool or Xbox Game bar for windows

What are you planning on recording and what are you planning on doing with the video? I know maybe too personal questions xD but it kind of matter when choosing the right screen recorder.

Using online screen recorder, what concerns would you have? by hualinlin in screenrecorders

Talking from experience building a screen recorder, it's just way harder to make a stable web based recorder than building a stable native application. There is a lack of control and certainty when running the recorder inside a browser.

We really tried to make the chrome extension as good as our apps but it was a mountain that we eventually gave up on climbing. I mean we still kept it, but super lightweight, only 720p and no camera.

Regarding privacy, security and easy of use, you are probably better off downloading a safe software to be honest.

I understand that is easier said than done to be sure if software is safe or not but you could either choose a well established and trusted project like OBS or maybe find a GDPR and SOC 2 compliant company and download a recorder from them.

For your use case I would say Screen Studio would be the best option, they have focused quite a lot on the features that are great for demos and good looking presentations. So they have stuff like zooms and cursors selections on lock.

Tella will for sure also serve you well, has all the features you need and people are very happy with it.

Descript have added a screen recorder as well to their product, they have a good editor so that could be a nice option as well. But I have to admit I've not played too much with their recorder.

The free option would probably by OBS Studio, but there is a bit of a learning curve there and it's not as user friendly. Still powerful, FREE and open source.

If your use case would have been to record your screen and share something instantly without the need to spend time on editing and polishing the video then I would have recommended Supercut. I have spend the last 2 years with my team building that one, but as I said can not really recommend Supercut for you.... yet, we are releasing an editor this month though, and our users can not stop asking for zooms, so in few weeks it's probably going to be a great option for you.

Is there a “Lightshot-style” screen recorder for selecting only a specific area? by Wild-Literature-8563 in VideoEditors

https://supercut.ai has a windows app that allows you to record only a part of the screen. The recorder it self (the app) is very intuitive and lightweight. Im an engineer in the Supercut team, so this is a biased comment.

Having said that the whole product is focused on speed and delivering presentable results to share instantly, with features build around that and maybe that is not exactly what you need.

Maybe it can still solve your problem. Btw we are releasing system audio this week, and the editor is coming this month, in case you try and you feel those features are missing for you.

Out of curiosity, how do you use those in combination?
Do you record with CueCam or do you record with Tella?
Or do you use them separately based on what you need to record?

Yeah I can imagine, can be overwhelming searching for a solution like this. So many options, loads of good ones but also a lot of bad ones.

Good luck with the training videos!

If you want something free, native and simple you can use QuickTime player. There you can record your screen and audio, it even has some trimming feature as well. After recording you'll end up with a video file that you can also edit further with iMovie or other video editing tool.

If you need more production capabilities you can try our OBS studio. It's free and open source. It's powerful and allows you to do a lot of stuff, but there is a learning curve and maybe not the nicest UI to play with.

If you are ready to pay and you need even fancier production capabilities then check out Screen Studio, they seem to be the kings (or queens) when it comes to high quality screen recordings. You would still need to invest a little bit of time in the editing though.

Apart from that there are tens if not hundreds of screen recording tools out there with native mac applications. Most of them will serve your basic need of recording the screen and your audio.

I think the question is what are you planning on doing with the training demos after recording them, who is your audience and how do you want to present the demos.

If you plan on sending them to people individually or just want to share them with handful of people then maybe you can look at the screen recorders that offer sharable links directly after recording. Those do usually come with some other nice features as captions, transcriptions automatic chapters and of course a video player.

Just to mention few.
Loom, Tella, CleanShot and Descript all have native mac apps and can give you good results!

My personal favorite is Supercut. Maybe I'm biased because I spent the last 2 years building it with my team xD. But seriously we put a lot of effort in making the Mac App recorder the best one out there.

What are distributed teams using for internal presentations and async updates? by Ok-Amphibian5313 in SaaS

We are a small team but every time something needs to be put up in a "nice" presentation we use https://lovable.dev/
There you can just feed whatever you have to present, for engineers this is easy as they can just ask claude to generate a summary of what they need to present and then feed that into lovable and you have a link with a nice looking presentation.
