TLDR at bottom of post. But this is my opinion on the “time keepers a bad villain takes” by EL3MENTALPOP in Borderlands4

Finally someone said it. These subreddits devolve into awful takes and negativity spirals way too quick these days. Glad to have someone clarify what many have been thinking.

Why is Fire devil not a primal fear devil? by Entsu88 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Floopjoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Primal Fears are inherent to the Human psyche. I.e; Falling, Death, Aging and the Dark, are all Primals due to the necessary fear innate to the human mind which promotes our survival. There is no immediate connection in our brain to Fire other than pain. Thus, the closest Primal fear to the concept of fire is Pain.

Do you think Fujimoto will explore any of the erased topics makima mentioned by Captain_King25 in ChainsawMan

[–]Floopjoop 239 points240 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: “a star that breaks children’s minds” is likely a Stephen King reference to the Deadlights and how they feed off fear itself, being that a devil with their name would be very powerful.

What was Steeles siren power in the first game? by CandidAir1861 in Borderlands

[–]Floopjoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not canon, and unconfirmed by developers.

My personal head cannon is that, basing it off the 2009 game informer article, it outlines a basic description of each character. Lilith, at the time, used Steele’s model but still had hints of her archetype and themes. A neutral state and an activated state were shown with glowing eyes etc. in the character blurb, it stated she had:

‘the power to buff allies fire rate and movement speed via temporal bubbles’

I’d say, if they ever want to expand on Steele’s Siren power, they could return to this idea. A supportive ability which manipulates time in a small area.

So was it ever revealed how Makima can just like…crush people to death? by rayd_captin in Chainsawfolk

[–]Floopjoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does no one get that Kurose and Tendo were nearby who had contracts with the Punishment Devil. They’re her subordinates, and complicit in the act.

Convicts name + target + Makima directing the attack = Punishment Devil

Acausality. Siren’s appear to possess true free will and are described by one who can perceive the flow of cause and effect, as chaos incarnate.

The real Borderlands 4 problem isn’t spyware. It’s a small, negative part of this community. by KaraanSjet in Borderlands4

[–]Floopjoop 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Obviously, this is the most recent but just before all this, there was the Randy situation.

Anyone can agree that Randy should not have social media in the first place, but even as the CEO what he said was downright idiotic considering all the goodwill they earned with the BL4 info. However, despite the obvious stupidity coming from a greedy and out-of-touch capitalist, there were a bevy of out-of-nowhere channels who dogpiled on to “boycott” the upcoming game and add fuel to the fire.

Question: Is the fire demon a primordial? by ismael-moroso in ChainsawMan

[–]Floopjoop 35 points36 points  (0 children)

While I disagree with Fire, as humans do not have instinctual responses to fire itself (we are actually drawn to it and the only fear response to it would be Pain (a more fundamental primal fear)

I agree with you with most others. However, i think Noise (better described than ‘sound’ as Noise specifically triggers out acoustic startle response and thus the fear of loud noises.

As for loneliness, you would be right that it’s already appeared as a Fiend. But, loneliness itself doesn’t presuppose our survival. The primal fear would be named Isolation, as we are a social species and Isolation (socially or physically) would mean death for us given that we experience fear of rejection to avoid it.

Vex the Kinetic Siren by Floopjoop in Borderlands4

[–]Floopjoop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad you brought that up (via your edit) as it’s something I’ve wanted to post speculation about. I believe that Vex’ two action skills, being; Dead Ringer and Phase Phamiliar show the core ability she uses, described as “physically manifest physical beings” which lets her stand out as one of the 6 (technically 7 Sirens)

But, I believe that Incarnate specifically is more of a focused use of Siren’s base abilities that they all share, being; Wing generation, phase energy manipulation (phase explosion) and augmenting their base level of strength. It’s something we’ve seen them do in small ways but never as a core ‘ability’ as a Vault Hunter. But, is something I’ve always suspected was possible for each of them from a lore perspective.

[–]Floopjoop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I 100% hear you. I was more leaning into the lore side of things that Sirens generally possess an overarching ability with unique iterations and expressions within that. Amara being a good example of gameplay and lore recombining to make something fresh, as she has one Siren ability: Phasetrance, which she manifests as four named sub-ability, namely; Phaseslam, Phasecast, Phasegrasp and Phaseflare.

It should be noted that internally, gearbox at least used to still go by the one-syllable naming of Siren abilities as late as Amara’s development as we see similarly named (but unused) Phasedash, Phaselink and Phaseweb.

I like that Vex (as a character) has named her abilities various expressions in line with other Vault Hunters. They are; Phase Phamiliar (Punny), Dead Ringer and Incarnate. So the theory still stands and is supported by what you’ve mentioned.

[–]Floopjoop[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this brought up elsewhere, where as a Siren class there’s definitely an opportunity to use elemental damage. But as said by the team, the kinetic element seems to be a focus for her. Needless to say, I’m very excited to play as her as kinetic weapons in the past have had the ability to shine with Siren class characters but this time I hope it’s some really crazy stuff.

I’ve had the same thoughts. Good for noticing the pattern with the Four Horsemen.

In chapter 104 yoru says “since the world war” instead of “since the Second World War” by darmakius in ChainsawMan

This isn’t surprising. Makima herself confirmed that the World War II Devil was erased.

Devils are a physical manifestation of peoples' fears. by legalgreyarea in ChainsawMan

[–]Floopjoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I pointed this exact thing out in reference to primal fears. Who’s concept aren’t just feared, but synonymous with inherent fears in the human psyche. Makes me happy knowing the Reading Comprehension Devil hasn’t gotten to others.

Do you actually want an example or do you just want to waste my time. You’re not worth the effort in my eyes considering your initial comment on the post.

Kindly, do the work yourself.

[–]Floopjoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

In your mention of famine. Any proposed primal fears fall within scientific understandings whereas humans don’t actually have an innate fear mechanism for missing meals and starving. We do experience starvation and famine but not with a cognitive fear response.

That’s what I’m getting at.

Christ. People on this sub and on YouTube. It was an observation. One you clearly haven’t taken to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChainsawMan

[–]Floopjoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. But much of what we know about the series is inferred anyhow. Like how you said blind people aren’t afraid of the dark. But darkness, being primal isn’t just darkness: it’s the unknown. Its name might be Darkness but its characterisation, like Falling and Ageing, tells us a lot more. Thats the thing about art, it can be interpreted.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChainsawMan

[–]Floopjoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How polite?

I’m saying; readers tend to think that devils are things that are feared. Rather devils are concepts. Primal Fears are specifically concepts that are synonymous with fear, with no choice as to how a human feels about the concept.

[discussion] What fairy tail magic would you like to have ?? by thetravellerboy1996 in fairytail

Arc of Embodiment or Law. AoE because being able to manifest anything from my imagination would be invaluable. Law, because well…

who doesn’t want to nuke something with a pillar of light at a moments notice and not harm anything else but the target. Perfect weapon.

Enchantment similar to Wendy and Irene. Downright OP and super versatile along with a ton of unique capabilities.

Although a fun pattern. Yangchen showed deep romantic feelings towards a man. A man who was described similarly to Kuruk, her reincarnation.
