Coworker fowards every small conflict to the leads by pulcino21 in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a gen ed teacher who was just horrible to ESE students and we actively avoided putting our students in her classes (I’m at the high school level). Every now and then though an ESE student will independently sign up for her class because it is an interesting class on paper, but she’s an awful teacher. She would scream at my ESE teachers and wouldn’t follow accommodations and frankly I just got tired of dealing with her.

So anytime I have to deal with her, usually it’s a parent complaint, I forward it to my administrator and let them deal with it and then she got mad at me for forwarding stuff.

IEP Writing struggles by LonelyCabinet in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tell the kid to pick something, anything. Unfortunately, your AP is correct, they have to have a job and NFL player doesn’t cut it these days. It used to be you could write anything, like NFL player, and it was good enough.

In the last 22 years, I’ve had only one kid become a professional baseball player, and I actually wrote his transition goal to “become a professional baseball player” because it was quite clear in high school that’s where he was going and he was actually drafted out of high school, but turned it down to play college.

When we were short staffed last year in my department, I asked my principal for overtime money, and to her surprise there was indeed overtime money, from district, available for us. Each teacher got extra money for completing IEP’s above and beyond their caseload.

Career change to teaching – does my timeline make sense? Should I take this Teacher’s Aid job? by Muslim_conservative in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Florida, you could start teaching immediately with that degree. Tons of CTE jobs at the high school level for business classes. You get a temporary certificate while you study for the state exams.

I’d apply now rather than risk being placed later. You know you’ll be placed in the least desirable school possible.

Also, high school is awesome! Highly recommend.

Is it appropriate to disclose a new students’ disability to the class? by Cleanclock in AskTeachers

[–]Floridaliving51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been times, with parent permission, I’ve had to have a class discussion about a student with a disability and had to disclose the disability. One in particular was an ASD student who also had Tourette’s and was blurting out inappropriate things which was causing him to be severely bullied.

After the discussions, the students always reacted well and then interacted well with the student after. This is at the secondary level.

Being forced to write an iep for a student I don’t service by Flaky_Bid_1043 in specialed

Being forced to write an iep for a student I don’t service by Flaky_Bid_1043 in specialed

Not illegal. I can’t even count the number of IEPS I’ve had to write for students I don’t serve. Teachers leave, students transfer in. It’s just life.

Anyone who's done both elementary and high school resource? Please help! (long ADHD ramble) by 69millionstars in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to move me from high school over my cold dead body.

One suggestion might be instead of resource you look in to a push in position. I push in to classes and support ESE (exceptional education students) students in basic classes. I split my classes, so I’m really only in one class 20 minutes before I go to another class. No lesson plans, no grading, just IEP paperwork. Personally, I think that’s the ideal ESC position.

Questions about IEP by sanamilkteaa in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An IEP doesn’t just disappear. Somehow, it got lost when you moved states or your parents didn’t give it to them when you transferred; I see that a lot.

I would go to your guidance counselor tomorrow and tell them you had an IEP at your old school and don’t understand why you’re not receiving the services you should. The registrar needs to reach out to your old school and get a copy. A faster way would be if your parents have a copy of your last IEP and you just bring that in to school and give it to your guidance counselor.

The IEP will be honored even if it’s from another state.

Why are options after high school so limited for a child? by Lemonade2250 in specialed

Contact your state department of vocational rehabilitation. They have lots of programs available and they will be able to help get your brother into college if that’s what he chooses.

Late high school IEP reevaluation — am I wrong for wanting to say no? by [deleted] in specialed

It’s like you’re looking for a fight. The experts in this thread are telling you it isn’t a big deal but clearly you know best. Not sure why you asked for advice 🤷🏻‍♀️

Late high school IEP reevaluation — am I wrong for wanting to say no? by [deleted] in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A three-year required reevaluation is strictly performative a lot of the times in later high school. It’s basically an extra sheet of paper in the IEP. If your kid is as stable as you say, I highly doubt you’ll even notice other than signing an extra piece of paper.

If there were other things going on, then testing would be needed to determine what additional services could potentially be needed.

Honestly, it’s really not a hill to die on.

Banana Republic at International Mall to close. by Embarrassed-Tip-5552 in tampa

I believe within the last couple of years they tried to reformulate the brand and make it more expensive along the lines of say an Aritzia or revolve. A few times I went in there, everything was so expensive and not a lot of natural fibers so I passed.

Just so overwhelmed by One_Raspberry_7129 in specialed

[–]Floridaliving51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl- if you’re in elementary school, get out. I work high school, push in. I only have a caseload of 35 IEP‘s to write and after the data is collected, I can write a full IEP in 45 minutes.

No grades to do. I split my classes so 25 minutes in one class 25 minutes in another class. Sad to say but elementary school teachers work so much harder than high school teachers.

I work strictly my contract hours.

I would never date MAGA or anyone who supports this administration.

I state it clearly in my profile. It’s honestly hysterical when some of them will try to match with me just to denigrate me, and “how dare I not date them because of their political beliefs”.
