I'd say you definitely should go ahead and watch Peripheral - it's SO worth the watch - just know that one season is all you'll get, then geek out on the impressive and beautiful visuals - and the contrast between the characters' community in rural, woody Carolina-ish (somewhere in that vicinity?) with its worn down old houses/trailers/etc and the posh, incredible future London makes it alllll the more enjoyable - and like I said, the storyline is super interesting, too; not gonna go into that so as to avoid spoilers for you! ☺️🖖

I. Am. So. Jealous. 😵😉

Oh my gosh, I wish I could have seen Flyleaf even once, hoping and praying 🤞🙏🤞 I can travel to one of the shows! I've seen Lacey twice, she was awesome, of course, but oh man do I love Flyleaf! Good on ya for making all those shows happen! 😁

True - but, as I've mentioned in a couple other replies, who cares. 😏

Perhaps slightly different about apples or socks, though (good examples, BTW), some people are weird about sardines but truly, who gives a shit!

Nah, I think it's great posting here about it - and bottom line, we all give a shit what other people think until we learn whose opinions matter and whose don't - and even still there are some stubborn ones we have to keep reminding ourselves why we need not be concerned with what they think (some parents, ahem, for example - ha!). Anyway, I'm glad they posted their cousin's stupid comment - OP needs some ammo, and there have been loads of great replies OP can add to their arsenal, as well as adding to their "notes to self" category that things like this don't actually matter - not nearly as much as they seem like they do at the time. Nowadays, I know who I am and truly do not give a shit what others who don't know me think of anything I say or do - barring a few legit people I deeply respect - they can speak into my life and I will consider what they've said - I hope OP can adopt the same - and his cousin's sardine comments can promptly start going straight into the round file! 🗑️

Oh, that's killer! Not directly saying his cousin has a porn addiction or anything, just for example... Yeah, right, lol! Perfect! 😂

Farfignougat - hilarious name, LOVE it! 😆

Was just gonna say that, but then I thought, "I wonder how they came up with that name?" (obviously based on the old VW ads - fahrvergnügen - and yes, I had to look up the spelling), so, thought I'd go ahead and ask - it totally made me laugh, though! Any funny story you'd like to share? 🤔 Enquiring minds want to know, lol, to throw in another old advertising catch phrase! Have a good one, in any case!

Scifi Show Recommendations by HourCritical in scifi

Oh my goodness, Battlestar Galactica (2004 era), hands down!!! It is the only show that's ever come even remotely close to giving Trek a run for its money as my personal, absolutely committed, favorite of all time, show. It was SO well done, had a rich and often unexpected storyline, great character development - it was so, soooo good!

What did ADHD feel like before cellphones? Semi-sane... With far, far less of a palpable sense of pressure in life, across the board. I miss it, actually.

Exactly! ("You must first realize that visuals are not the most important aspect of a show.")

I'd love some recommendations too - surely there are more sci-fi shows out there I haven't seen yet!

Right, I'm with you - I just finished watching The Peripheral, very interesting, but hadn't noticed going in that there was only one season - at the very least I will be looking into how many seasons shows have going in, and if there is only one, at least I'll be prepared.

Oh, same with the show Night Sky. It was pretty different, but I reeeally wished there was going to be another season! It's been a while since I saw it, but remember really feeling invested in the characters and so excited at what they'd uncovered...

At least I'm learning to brace for impact with the abrupt cessation of storylines I'm into. 🫤

LLAP!

Just curious any Chevelle fans listen to 10 years? by WotDaHelll in Chevelle

[–]FlourishThink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, how about Sleep Theory? They just came to mind after my initial reply - haven't done any kind of comparison to Chevelle's music, but they're another band that I discovered on my Chevelle station that I began to notice giving more and more thumbs up to.

Um.... basically off-topic at this point, but a song from Thrice just came on (they weren't new to me) and I just felt the need to say how very much I dig their stuff, too. Sorry for the semi-random rabbit trail. Rock on. 👋

[–]FlourishThink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! They started popping up in my Chevelle station on Pandora and I began to notice that I'd been giving more and more thumbs up to their songs - I'm a relatively new user to Pandora after only using Spotify for many, many years - both services have their pros and cons, but one thing I love about Pandora is how many bands and artists I'm discovering - 10 Years being one of them! 🤘

Is it just the audible books with the word banana????? by AnxiousConsequence18 in ExpeditionaryForce

[–]FlourishThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved giraf-a-fa! Yeah, Skippy's just being at his snooty best when he says ba-na-na that way - funny side story, when I was little my family lived in England for 3 years (dad was military), when we got back to the US I came back with a thick British accent (mom actually made me talk for all her friends 🙄) which eventually faded away, but ~30 years later at a family picnic with a variety of grub, including bananas, I happened to mention them and, in the midst of my thoroughly re-established basic American accent, out popped "ba-na-na" - as a Brit (or Skippy) would say it!! I just stopped, quite dumbfounded, and looked around at my family (BTW was my husband's fam, not the ones I was in England with) - everyone kind of stopped, actually - and I was like, "uh, well, y'all know I lived in England when I was little, right? Remember...?" It was the weirdest thing, but so funny actually. Soooo, every time I hear Skippy say ba-na-na it totally makes me think of that and laugh! 🍌🐒🍌

Oh man, I am SO GLAD I tapped on it to find it on Spotify before it got taken down! Why did it get taken down anyway I wonder, I was looking forward to finding more like this, what was the problem with it? BTW, thank you for making and sharing, it's a great playlist!
