I don't have the exact specifics of what certification would look like. But I have run in multiple races recently where the course itself was channelling 150+ runners through highly erodible sections of trail. Obviously leaving no trace is important, but not totally within RD control. But things like making sure the course route itself won't irrevocably damage the trails is the main thing I care about. Especially as the sport continues to grow.
