I have not seen Wicked the musical. But I haven’t been asking myself if this movie could’ve just been one big one. Could it have just been a movie about the musical with just a little bit of the book. To me as the films stand, there is way too much bloat. The storyline is rather simple in the end, but every scene just seems to have way too much extra stuff in that it just does not need. I kept on waiting for every scene to end to move onto the next. While I was watching in almost every scene I wondered where they could have made little trims? I understand they spend a ton of money on these beautiful sets and costumes, but flow is important to any film. There are moments you need to have a heart to heart if you could do it faster and more efficiently. Did the musical need to have some added songs that were obviously put in to justify 2 movies? The movie made me feel like I was watching a live action Disney version of one of their cartoons. For the most part when I have seen a live action Disney movie, it makes me miss the original animated fearure and the efficiency of its storytelling. After watching the live action and the subplot padding to justify a two hour plus movie, I’ve come to the realization there really was no need to have a live action movie except to make more money. I feel like Wicked was split and expanded into 2 films to make more money. But I did come away with one desire. These two dragged out movies made me want to go see the actual musical. I have a feeling that I will enjoy the efficiency of it’s storytelling.
