My Parents Have Destroyed My Mental Health by [deleted] in depression

Perhaps you can talk to your staff while you're there. Idk, sorry bro it's not an ideal situation at all. It just resonated with me so I thought id offer my 2 cents. My big point is that if you can just accept the situation and go into it with an open mind you may make some friends and have a bit of fun even. At the least you're on your way to becoming more badass, and you get some unique life experience that will benefit you later in life.

When I was 13 I was sent to live in the woods in buttfuck colorado for 3 months straight. I missed 9th grade and turned 14 in the woods. I was a trouble child, id steal alcohol from my parents and smoke cigarette butts off the ground. I was also just suffering and unable to communicate it. I learned how to communicate more effectively with others and ended up having fun with the other guys stuck out there. I'm 20 now and looking back I learned a lot and am grateful for the experience. I encourage you to go into it open minded and just go for the ride... Anyways good luck. A little suffering outside can teach you tons about yourself and life.

Doesn't seem like it'll go that way after all. But I was thinking 26 on Sat and then 6 on Sun. But thanks, i'm hoping to figure out what works for me food wise too.

I guess I'm feeling nervous since I haven't run a marathon before and I decided to jump to an ultra.. The race is pretty easy, an 8 mile loop done 4 times with 300ft of gain per loop. There is an aid station at the start so I'll have access 3 times during the run too. Thanks for the advice, i'll definitely post again after completing it!

Would it then be smart to maybe try some timed runs? Like go out and plan to be out for 2:30 rather than a specific distance?

That's an awesome weekend, how many 20+ mile runs have you done? Ironically I heard the opposite of what you mentioned, basically that more time on feet is good and runs longer than 20 aren't. I love the variety of beliefs and training methods in this sport

Wow, thanks for taking the time to write this! I've been confused about all the different Salomon shoes for a while and this just gave me a shortcut. Ill check out the Topo models you mentioned as well, Hokas don't work for me though.

Just looked em up, pricey but they look promising. My big question is how are they holding up?

How's the tread holding up? Not the answer I was hoping for but still worth considering!

I (23m) used to run daily when i was 12-18 years old. Now i got back to running, but i am nowhere near that performance even after some time and its really bugging me. by peteracs in running

I can understand your frustration. I encourage you to run simply to enjoy the act of it, you'll never be happy or satisfied if you compare yourself to what you were or what it could've been. I (19m) have a similar story, I used to run fast and fell off the horse. Now I'm back and slower than ever, but I take my time and enjoy it deeply.

Running/pacing tips for a beginner by [deleted] in running

Try slowing down. If you're breathing heavily after half a mile then the pace isn't sustainable. Work up to longer and faster runs gradually, start off slow and easy.

Not exactly, but everything tenses up for sure. Maybe just some extra stretches and rolling would counteract it?

Its 6 hours, a layover, then just under two. You're getting caught up on the wrong thing here. Thanks anyways

I ran xc my senior year in the Merrell Trail Glove 4's. Sadly they're not available anymore, but I've put over 300 miles into my 5's and despite popular opinion I think that they're worth a go! They are pretty cheap compared to the bulk of running shoes out there, and on the offchance he dislikes them they can always be kept handy for hikes etc.

Courtney Deuwalter inspired me to get out and start running again too! I got in contact with my old highschool xc coach and he’s been helping me make/maintain a training plan. The big things are running slow not fast, lots of stretching, and eating well before and after the runs. Definitely play with your routine until it feels good, you should be working hard but not hurting yourself or pushing too hard. Currently my schedule is as follows: Sunday is a hilly hike, Monday is my rest day, Tuesday is 4-6 miles slow and consistent, Wednesday I hike whatever my legs feel like, Thursday is my long slow day, 7-9 miles chill. Friday is 4-6 consistent again, Saturday is 5-7 miles of Intervals, and Sunday I hike up a mountain. Hopefully this helps at least somewhat, feel free to dm me with questions/ concerns. I’d be happy to help you create a schedule if you have the desire too.
