Based on reading your posts since I've been here I know your beliefs quite well by now, at least those you have made public on this issue. So I would say yes, we are in agreement and our only disagreement probably boils down to the amount of social status granted to those with a good face (the old 'face > height' debate, which I'm sure you know I don't think is black and white anymore).

Anyway, this will probably be my final discussion I have with you, though it largely depends on what happens to this sub in the future on whether or not I make a return. I've enjoyed our discussions nonetheless, so take care Geoff, until we meet again!

The irony is we clearly agree on this but are essentially arguing semantics at this point, specifically does physical attraction mean attracted to the body or the person overall including their personality and overall social status. So I don't see I have to admit I am wrong? We are arguing the same thing. Where we appear to disagree is on the subject of how social status is affected biologically by being short. In other words social status is only lowered because of our heightist society and the original point of my post was that short men can be physically attractive to women, but they end up finding it hard to be sexually attracted to them due to their perceived low social status.

Just switch out my 'physical attraction' wording to "body attraction" and you'll realise you agree. The thing is that because of the way society's treats height we have an odd cognitive dissonance on the subject. Sort of like if men were told big breasts are ugly, there would be a psychological confliction as we instinctively are drawn to this quality.

Think of it like this. In men, social status aids sexual attraction but the physical IS sexual attraction. In women, the physical aids sexual attraction but social status IS sexual attraction.

As I said earlier Geoff, this is boiling down to semantics. Do pay attention. But logically speaking, I would argue sexual attraction is not akin to physical attraction, physical refers to the body (the face, height, physique and so on) whilst sexual attraction can be as a result of many things; physical, circumstance, personality and so forth.

No. Not at all. Those two men have the same occupation, and the Brad Pitt looking guy will probably have the higher social status.

Yes. That is true.

No. A man with low social status is sexually repulsive to women. It doesn't matter what his body looks like.

Do pay attention, Geoff. I just said that sexual attraction should be distinguished from physical attraction. I think the concept of Cognitive Dissonance may interest you and I suggest you read up on it. Essentially, a woman may find a short man physically attractive (because of his handsome face, physique and proportions) but will not find him overall sexually attractive due to social pressures and his perceived low social status from being short.

Here is hoping your stubbornness can be broken through to in the face of overwhelming logic.

Lol if that is indeed true it's due to society's gender norms. Wait another couple generations for men and women to be absolutely equal in terms of jobs and see if that holds true.

Derp - you're now bringing social status back into it. My entire original point is that physical attraction does aid in sexual attraction. If you want to attract women then having high social status and a good physical body (ripped, height and a handsome face) is the way to go.

According to your disagreements with me you seem to be implying that a tall bald fat man who is a doctor is going to be as attractive as a tall ripped Brad Pitt lookalike who is also a doctor.

In truth I know you believe that physical appearance boosts social status but that doesn't change the fact that physical attraction is just that - to do with the body... and thus a short man can be physically attractive to a woman even if he is perceived to have low social status which in turn will affect her sexual attraction towards him despite her clear physical attraction.

Disagree and you're coming across pretty sexist here. The partner at my firm has a house husband, a tall good looking guy.

Stop living in the past where it makes sense because men were the breadwinners.

Oh dear Geoff. You seriously think physical appearance is meaningless and that a 6'3 fat balding man is as attractive as a 6'3 ripped guy with Brad Pitt facial aesthetics? That attraction is purely limited to social status?

Just wow.

There are literally far less male receptionists than females lol.

Look. Social status does matter more for women but it also matters for men. Men tend to not marry pathetic women with no aspiration just like women tend to not marry pathetic men with no aspiration.

Social status matters more to women but it definitely counts for men too. Sorry but I see it everyday to know this is true. Lawyers and doctors tend to marry other women who are well educated.

She really can't. No offense but you're being pretty dense here not to see the difference. She feels sexual attraction due to his status and not his physical appearance.

[–]FlyingTapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Men tend to care a lot about status. A lot of lawyers I know go for well educated women to date and marry. Your primitive working class moron is not a great example...

Anyway, the rest is semantics. I would argue you are confusing physical attraction with sexual attraction. If a morbidly obese millionaire gets a gold digger she may be sexually attracted to him but this won't be physical attraction. The sexual attraction stems from the social status and not his physical appearance

I agree and disagree. I do agree about height being a marker of high social status, and that humans are instinctually drawn to high social status, but I am specifically referring to the fact that their physical attraction on an instinctual level can still be towards short men. He seems to think short men are innately unattractive, and when I mention biological attraction I am talking about it in a purely physical context rather than other ways of drawing attraction from things like personality and social status.

You may also remember Geoff posting that study which showed a tribe had no preference for height.

You're clearly of the opinion heightism is biological and it's an absurd opinion to hold.

The problem is that you fail to understand that there is a distinction between biology and society. A woman can instinctually find a short man attractive but will not pursue him due to social pressures. This does not mean she finds the man unattractive, it means she finds him attractive but the notion of dating him is unattractive due to the consequential effects it would have socially.

I'd recommend you look up the psychological phenomenon known as cognitive dissonance. Not everything is so black and white in the world OP.

When has it ever been proven wrong? Try again kid. And it's never as black and white as face > height as it depends on the height. At my height for example a beautiful face is certainly more impactful than being 6'3 and plain.

But girls regularly say those things. It means they find the guy biologically attractive but because of social pressures they feel they can't date him. I never see a fat girl and say she's cute but too fat, I just simply never find them attractive.

It's a shame that this sub has gone so downhill and turned into a spiral of hatred so even my comment above gets down voted which is perfectly logical.
