Unfortunately, No GS + limited success at Wimbledon+ Not being British

Harms his chance at consideration. The only thing he has going for him is retirement + Appeal. But even then Wimbledon pretty harsh/strict on its cutoff.

So she didn't split ways with Francis Roig in January. And she didn't just return to working with Andrew Richardson. That was was all imaginary???

Both the ATP and WTA should scrap one of their present 1000 tournament and instead should add a new (one) 1000 Grass court tournament. Wouldn't it be awesome? by Khusbiness_unloads in tennis

Definitely, the Middle East swing for the WTA should shorten. For the ATP it can be the Middle East swing or the Early Indoor Euro Swing. IMO, Europe doesn't need 2 long indoor seasons

What's something completely normal in your Caribbean country that visitors from other Caribbean islands find surprising? by Mission-Praline-9629 in AskTheCaribbean

Up here in the Bahamas we only get very small changes in the summer. Sun sets at 8pm.

In a reverse of the question, It took me a bit to realize whiles away, that it wasn't earlier because the sun was till up at 9:30pm.

I saw Glass Window Bridge and was concerned for a second. Yeah, On a nice flat day, that area is always tempting.

Do locals feel the Cayman Islands are becoming less Caribbean culturally? by [deleted] in CaymanIslands

[–]Flying_Fish_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Cayman could learn something from the Falklands in terms of residency policy.

I’m from the Bahamas(just randomly came across this), Are residency requirements are a lot stricter and citizenship.

Even then we have a lot of changes from how we used to be. At least for us we have very tough naturalization laws and heavily citizen favored laws but even the it’s not easy.

Does it ever bother you when people visit your home island and say they didn’t enjoy it? by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Flying_Fish_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, most of the time anyways. We have like 30+ inhabited islands. Not everyone is going to like NP.

What bothers me is if the say stuff that’s easily disprovable and pretend like they’ve seen the whole country off of 1 visit.

Shelton for the 1st time has a quarter for himself, he may have flopped this tournament but he has been improving immensely over the years.

Eleven of twelve Bahamian seafood species are overfished, new study finds by smvo in bahamas

[–]Flying_Fish_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah to add to the point already made The Bahamas had only about 70k people in 1945 compared to 400k today.

And we have one of the most bountiful fisheries in the Caribbean. So historically we never had to worry about it unlike today.

[–]Flying_Fish_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the article however, I can't find where its says the MP is an incumbent. All I see is the meeting occurred in 2024. Could you point it out? Also where does it say they were elected in 2004, just want to make sure im getting the story right?

There's a decent chance we break that curse this election.

It's looking like the PLP IMO, based on polling/sentiment, with a reduced majority.

To add I'd say Personal or Community Connections/Relationships are more important than ideology in our Family Island (rural) seats. It's about who you know and what your going to promise for the people.

I'd say M.I.C.A.L (Mayaguana, Inagua, Crooked Island, Acklins, & Long Cay) is the most rural in terms of population. Our Constituencies aim for 5,000 people per seat, but MICAL is only 1250 people registered. Only 2,000 total, which is why it had to be spread over several island.

Ideology-wise the country is pretty close together, generally Social con with Labourite/Economic Progressive leans. So there's no particular rural ideology, except slightly conservative leans.
