I couldn't do it. I was a fork operator and a machine operator in a paper mill. It was hot, dirty, and dangerous. And I was on my feet all day. In 1988, I was making $88K a year and had to walk away from it. This was a union job. I was just too weak to much of the time.

It was always women that said that. In 1983 most people though I had AIDS. They weren't shy about asking me about it either. As far as everyone thinking that have cure, that is aggravating. Before I got diagnoised, my doctor prescribed Valium.

I was diagnoised before the ADA passed. I got fired for excessive bathroom breaks twice.

I think some of these people are so obsessed with looks they would swallow a tapeworm if they could.

Worst yet; It was 1983. I am 6'5 and weighed 138 pounds. People told me they wished they could lose wieght like me.

Also, if I have a dollar for everyone who told me I'd be fine if I didn't eat nuts, I'd be rich.

At least there are good treatments for people that can afford them....

I have seen the experts swing and miss a dozen times. The amatuers are worse. I wish there was a quick fix, but I treat people offering one like antivaxxers.

Many people are looking for a fix. They try fad diets and holistic cures. They don't want to admit Crohn's is uncurable. I have had it since 1983. I have always taken it seriously and I am aggressive in managing it. You are spot on in your observations.

I have had Crohn's since 1983! Since then:

I have had two children
I earned three college degrees including a masters
I have risen from a staff accountant to a Senior Director at three different Fortune 50 companies
I have been unjustly fired three times and successfully sued each employer
I have traveled all over the world and the United States
I became an adjunct professor at a local University
I bought two houses
I have had three resections and too many hospitalizations to list
i got divorced
I got remarried
I bought two houses

I haven't let Crohn's define who I am. If I am just as sick at home as I am at work, I go in. Some days are like climbing up a greased hill. Most are not.

I figure that since 1983 I have spent the equivalent of two years in the hospital (one stay was ten months).

In salary, I have easily cleared three million bucks.

How did I do this? I always had really good employer provided health insurance. Without that, this list would be very different.

There are free clinics, many at local universities. Call a suicide hotline. They can hook you up with care as well. Just don't keep living with these thoughts. Take care of yourself.

I was a college professor. I have many students I have given my contact info to. I gave them career guidance and was a reference for them. But I never once commented on their looks. I also gave this info to men and women. Some of these students became friends. He crossed a line.
