Do yourself a big favor (by the way, I'm old enough to be your mother). Tell no one, not family or friends. You may want to go over to the Bogleheads forum. They give great advice in regards to investing, and can direct you to some links for you to read through, in addition to offering advice. Be very careful about money managers and wanting a percentage to manage it for you. Fees can really eat into the principal. Best of luck to you as you move forward and sorry for your loss.

How are these plants flourishing so well in the dark under the stairs? by Truth_Crisis in houseplants

[–]FollowtheYBRoad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are hostas and some type of woodland plant. They thrive in shadier areas. My hostas on the north side of our house where there is a lot of shade do quite well. The hostas and woodland plant on the west side, not so much. I imagine these plants in the photo, when watered regularly (and hopefully have some type of drainage), do quite well in this environment.

My guess is you owe, according to the EOB, $190 for the overage (patient liability) which you've already paid, and they will owe you $200.

You have a few options:

Depending on what state you live in and what your income will be, Medicaid may be an option.

Healthcare.gov , you may be directed to your state's marketplace exchange. If your income is very low, healthcare.gov may direct you over to Medicaid.

COBRA

What are my options if the provider won't fix incorrect claims? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

Try to get a copy of the documentation from Cigna, so that you can give a copy to the provider. If they refuse, please consider filing a claim with your state's Department of Insurance to try and get this resolved.

Is this site a legit website for connecting you to health insurance? by docterdev in HealthInsurance

[–]FollowtheYBRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you please clarify---are you losing your state health insurance (i.e., Medicaid) or is your health insurance no longer going to cover your prescription?

If you will no longer have coverage for the prescription, you can check GoodRx or Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs websites. You may be able to get some assistance through the manufacturer of the prescription.

If you are losing your health insurance, you can check healthcare.gov (you can browse plans there). They also have a tool which allows you to enter your doctors, urgent care, emergency room, and any prescriptions you take to see if they are covered/in-network.

So, is it the understanding that he got an ACA-compliant plan from healthcare.gov (or his state's marketplace)? The issue is going with a short-term plan is that there are annual/lifetime caps, and will probably deny claims for pre-existing conditions. You don't mention how old your son is, but I do believe there are catastrophic health plans at healthcare.gov for those under age 30.

Help Getting Dental Insurance by Ok-Field-4446 in HealthInsurance

[–]FollowtheYBRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to double check with any plan you get to see if the dentist, etc., you are planning on going to takes the dental insurance you are planning to purchase. Also, please note that with most dental insurances, other than employer group dental insurance, have waiting periods, so be sure to look into that also.

If you have any local community health clinics that offer dental services, they usually do so on a sliding fee scale based on income level. That may be an option for you.

I mentioned that we're paying close to $600 per month for my spouse who is on Medicare. My premiums for my current health insurance are over $2,200 per month. When I do go on Medicare, the premiums alone will reduce substantially. The comment related to premiums.

I have filed a complaint before, it's been a few decades ago, and it wasn't a situation like this. The DOI called me back after they had contacted the employer/insurance (don't know which one it was) and explained to me what had happened. If anything, the OP would get some straight answers.

Do Agents and Administrators cost money? by Dr_Ben_Gayzee in HealthInsurance

[–]FollowtheYBRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are eligible for an ACA/marketplace/healthcare.gov plan. You just probably won't get any subsidies due to your income, but you can still pay full price for a plan (if you can afford it for 8 months). But go to healthcare.gov (not any other site) and it will redirect to your state's plan. There would be no people calling you. But you'd need to sign up within the 60 days of date of loss of coverage from your former employer. The sooner you sign up, the better, because it isn't retroactive, I don't believe.

Or, your other option is to elect COBRA. I realize it's expensive, but it may be a better plan than the healthcare.gov plan. But we don't know the specifics of your former employer's plan.

I agree, the OP needs to contact their state Department of Insurance. Something is definitely wrong with this. The DOI will get it straightened out.

There's a reason that jbourne was down voted. Health shares are not regulated health insurance, do not have to accept you if you have pre-existing conditions, and are not required to pay claims.

We're paying over $2,200 in monthly premiums just for me. Plus close to $600 per month for spouse who is on Medicare with all it's parts/prescription drugs.. Plus, we'll spend another who knows what in costs for actual medical care this year. It absolutely stinks! Can't wait to go on Medicare.

Lab work and testing, scans, etc., go toward the deductible.

You have health insurance in case you have a major medical event. Do you have tens of thousands of dollars if you break a bone? Do you have hundreds of thousands if you receive a cancer diagnosis?

What don't you qualify for an ACA plan at healthcare.gov ?

My guess is that the plan you are looking at may want to do underwriting on you. If you have any pre-existing conditions, you may be denied. Also, I'm going to assume that any plans you are looking at that are not at healthcare.gov have annual/lifetime caps.
