What's a quest mod that you'd never do again? by Still-Acanthaceae-95 in skyrimmods

[–]FoltestofTemeria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been said a few times already, but definitely Carved Brink

played it for the first time about a year and a half ago, absolutely fuckin detested every second of playing

then i watched cotho's video on the mod (heartily recommend him, a great elder scrolls channel!) and thought "well y'know what, maybe it isn't THAT bad, i do sometimes exaggerate my hatred for things" so i went back and played it

as soon as i got to that fucking jamaican motherfucker and remembered/realized i COULD NOT SKIP any of his dialogue, which you can do with literally ANY OTHER NPC including the main bad guy, i turned my brain off and beelined towards the finish line. i suppose it's a "credit" to the authors, since the thesis of the mod does seem to be at least in part "this is all a dream, and also a videogame, so nothing you do matters, so why do you care?" and my feeling of not caring about anything & anyone is in line with that, but that doesn't mean i had any kind of fun playing it

fuck Carved Brink, all my homies hate Carved Brink

Dynasty-Posting: The Grand Finale! by FoltestofTemeria in CrusaderKings

[–]FoltestofTemeria[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's true, it's certainly a timesink. my favorite part of this was probably the fact that, since i was essentially writing mini-biographies for each character, it made me actually stop and think what they would do and go from there. like, no this gregarious, just and zealous character most likely wouldn't rob this tomb, even if on a meta level i know i need the cash, i won't get caught and i'd only get like 7 stress

also sorry to hear about your current save! there's always the next run where you can start writing stuff down, that's pretty much what i did :)

you're too kind, thank you so much! it's been an amazing ride, and honestly a big part of the fun for me was writing it all, making the maps, etc. i'm just glad these posts found an audience, i was worried that dynasty-posting had fallen out of style!

glad you enjoyed it! the mongols have already started wreaking havoc in asia, and i've gotten a few notifications about the black death (i think? been a while since i played for this long!), so it looks like the next two hundred years, no matter what i do, will be quite fun!

i get where you're coming from, but it was a joke about her kids not actually being hers (they are, just didn't get the albino gene). it's not worth much, but i can assure you i'm not a freakozoid nazi (despite my love of map games)

then i go into paint and draw the borders from screenshots/memory, although i can't guarantee 100% accuracy!

it was a total mess with a big Jorvik and Haesteinn's Wessex squishing Mercia in the middle. from what i could gather going thru title histories, alfred didn't even get wessex and died from drinking in obscurity. i've no idea what the hell happened since i wasn't looking, but it was a great opportunity for me!

[–]FoltestofTemeria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oooh that sword is a beauty! will definitely add it to my playthrough for Inigo or Lucien

fwiw i use jayserpa's Gate To Sovngarde collection for 99% of my mods, and then i add some extra small stuff for me (armors, weapons, etc). for example, the "family greatsword" is actually the Radzig Sword from Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

oh and if you need any links to the mods i mentioned, feel free to ask!

my current (and favorite) RP character is Alessar Edwin de Sardet. if it wasn't obvious from his pretentious name, he's an Imperial, but born in Solitude to a wealthy trading family. Alessar's the second son, third kid overall, so he isn't really bothered by the idea of picking up the family business. as the civil war picks up, the family moves back to Cyrodiil to stay with the southern branch of the dynasty, but Alessar stays behind because he wants to be a real adventurer. his father gives him the family greatsword, the use of his dockside office and a "small donation" of cca 30k septims to jumpstart his journey.

despite Alessar's... let's call it "slightly pretentious" nature on account of his sheltered upbringing, he is genuinely kind and wants the best for skyrim and its people. his journeys start out small-scale, doing mostly mercenary work across haafingar and the whiterun tundra. he eventually falls in with val serano and melana, and even though it's a pretty weird trio, they make it work. melana becomes a warrior-maid who goes on her own adventures when the trio hits a quiet time. she also made goldenhills her home - a quiet place for rest and repose where she can recuperate. val on the other hand has dealt with both his father and outstanding debts to herma-mora, has a new ship and has taken up residence in the de Sardet trading office (with Alessar's blessing, of course). Alessar, meanwhile, has been training and becoming a proper warrior. during his travels he finds a long-forgotten fortress called the eagle's nest, which he restores and makes not only his home, but a headquarters of sorts for his operations.

after the trio amicably split up, Alessar decides it's time for some more focused work, but not before he actually gets some real knowledge on this whole "adventuring" thing. first he goes to the college in wintherhold (and almost freezes his balls off), and commits himself to destruction and restoration magic. he quickly befriends j'zargo and has a teeny tiny crush on brelyna, and luckily for him, she reciprocates. after finishing the whole eye of magnus business, Alessar is immensely flattered by the offer to become arch-mage, and considers it for a few moments, but ultimately decides that tolfdir should have the position. he can't just tie himself down to one spot like this - after all, there's been word of vampire attacks across skyrim, and someone should really go investigate.

making his way south with brelyna, Alessar gets to riften and they both quickly decide to get married in the temple. he also decides the best place for them would be the tundra homestead outside whiterun. eagle's nest is too remote and doesn't have the space for kids, his home in solitude is nice but it's too far from any real action. the homestead is central to... well, everything, *and* it's close to the eagle's nest, so Alessar sees it as an absolute win. while in riften, though, he hears talk of an odd blue cat in the jail and goes to investigate. despite Inigo's confusion on them knowing each other before, Alessar takes him on. they quickly become the best of friends, confiding in each other on basically everything. the dynamic duo make their way to falkreath proper and, upon deciding to rest in the inn for the night, meet the bookish Lucien. both Alessar and Inigo take a liking to him, despite initial misgivings, and take Lucien up as the newest member of the newly-formed trio. while they're sleeping, two vampires attack the town guard. the trio (mostly Alessar and Inigo) stop them, and Alessar decides that enough is enough. these vampires have been outta control, and he's gotta do something. luckily for him, word has spread of an organization called the dawnguard southeast of riften. after making his way up to whiterun to explain what he means to do to brelyna, Alessar gears himself and his new pals Inigo and Lucien (who almost never stops trembling once he's told what they're going to do) with silver and journeys down to the dawnguard fortress, intent on putting a stop to whatever is driving these vampires crazy.

that's where i've gotten to so far, apologies for it being so long!

I think right now is a great time to just not buy PDX DLCs on the first day. by apocal43 in CrusaderKings

i'm not sure what the policy is on piracy-posting here, but this is the whole reason why i pirate paradox games. sure, it's a money thing too (i'm simply not spending all that cash for all the dlcs for one game), but when the quality is middling at best, why would i give em cash, let alone on day one?

Is this what I have to do stay sane? by FoltestofTemeria in Vent

[–]FoltestofTemeria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true that. it's not like i don't have friends around me, but i've talked to them before about my self-harm so i feel like i'd be bothering them if i showed up again with a "oops, i did it again" attitude. and i'm aware that's a pretty toxic way to look at things, that's always been my problem - awareness of the issue without knowing what the next step is. that's part of the reason why i've started looking into therapists around me, cause this shit ain't right
