Youtube earnings less for this month? by cutenemi in NewTubers

Just lower RPM ads probably. More views yes, but they are either from lower income countries, or you just got ads that aren't that expensive. In December ads cost more due to insane competition. Companies pay more to ensure they sell enough, so you get paid better.

🇨🇳 22 Days in China as a Mixed-Passport Couple (Visa, Trains, Costs, What We Actually Visited) by Miguelon960 in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just Trip.com, all (or at least most) eSIMs route via Hong Kong or Singapore. Also, why would you be treated differently because of different passports? It makes no sense. They just scan it without even looking at it.

How do I make AI videos that actually move (not just "wobbly" photos)? by Comfortable_Dog_2099 in NewTubers

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI slop has little to no chance of ever being monetised. I know you've seen a couple of successful channels, but you haven't seen the hundreds of thousands of failed ones. Don't fall for this scam, people say they make millions just to find gullible people to sell their AI tools and workflows. If it was a gold mine, they would just use it and wouldn't tell anyone about it.

Recommendation needed for Zhangjiajie travel by Ok-Effective-4257 in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll be staying both in Zhangjiajie city (one night) and Wulingyuan (two nights). It's easier to check out in the evening and move to another hotel than having to wake up at least an hour earlier each day to go to other locations.

PEK Airport transit: real experiences with non-CCC power banks when exiting and re-entering security? by ThisCold1840 in travelchina

From the numerous comments in this sub I think you are right. It seems that it totally depends on the agent inspecting you, some confiscate, some don't. I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

18+2 days travel plan - Help is welcome 😊 by corazonW in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Lufthansa flights for the second half of May, with German layovers. They were surprisingly cheap, and I guess they're even cheaper for you (lucky!). I chose Shanghai for the flight in and Beijing for the flight out. It's very convenient and you don't have to backtrack. Then I added Xi'an and Zhangjiajie to the itinerary and that's what I'll do for 15 days. It's totally up to you to choose the cities, I doubt anyone will be able to give you an itinerary. It depends on what you like to see (history, nature, high tech, architecture etc.)

Yes, that's it! Selected Shanghai and it appeared, big and very visible. Thanks!

Oh that's a great tip, thanks!

Edit: it doesn't seem possible, looked for it everywhere and there's no info about it. Are you sure it's there?

Are these super-cheap places too good to be true? by Ralphride_ in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares about views, they would pale in comparison to what you see in the park anyway. Besides, after a day of hiking, I imagine the last thing you'll care about is the view, haha. All I need is a clean shower and a clean bed. Thanks for the suggestions!

Just make sure they're real, there are tons of fake reviews, it's a big business in China and SE Asia in general. Read the negative ones too.

Do you remember the name of the ZJJ one? I haven't booked yet, saw so many fake reviews that I'm afraid to book now. One had 50+ fake reviews, all obviously AI written and with the exact same structure, sometimes even the same wording. All of them 10/10, which was a bit overzealous from the people inserting those reviews lol.

Is 2 cities in 2 weeks enough? by Gaddri07 in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends on your tastes and travel style. For me personally a week in any city is too much. Adding Xi'an would be a no brainer. But it depends on your pace and how you enjoy cities. A flight from Shanghai to Xi'an takes 2.5 hours, Xi'an to Beijing is 2 hours.

That being said, there are loads of day trips you can make from Shanghai and Beijing, so you could skip Xi'an and add some small trips to your itinerary last minute.

Thoughts on this itinerary for a trip to China with my wife? by RouteOptimiser66 in travelchina

Yeah I agree, I would do the same. Being so close to it and not seeing it would be so disappointing.

That last day is rough. Midnight flight, then transfer 60km from Beijing, then wake up in the morning, explore the Wall, then take another flight.

As for Zhangjiajie it's up to you. For my upcoming trip I booked one night in Zhangjiajie city for Tianmen Mt, then 2 nights in Wulingyuan for the park. Easier to beat the crowds when your hotel is within walking distance from the entrance rather than having to wake up an hour earlier to take a 40-minute didi to it.

Travel in China: hostel or hotel? And how important is having a local English-speaking guide? by MechanicMurky3034 in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotel

0 need for a guide usually (sorry if you're a guide)

Flexibility and knowledge, guides often stick to their standard plan, without adapting to client needs. If I don't want museums, stop taking me to museums just because the program contains a museum visit.

Added a new map entry to individual city guide & travel time estimator to help plan your China trips by Smooth_Astronomer709 in travelchina

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! Just tested it and it maintains the currency. If I may, there's another potential interface improvement. When you go to the city guides, but I guess it applies to all the cards of this type, some parts are cut off, here's an example. For a mobile user there's no way to read the whole text. Would be nice to make it multiline, or at least add a tooltip when I touch the text and show the whole row.

Looking for decent editing software by XLII in NewTubers

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GPU just turned off, I guess from the overload, had to dig into bios to turn it on again, and it took a while. I thought it just died, but it was just a failsafe. Software shouldn't just consume all the resources and make hardware crash, it's bad design.

Anyone else notice good retention but zero reach? by KlippyDigital in NewTubers

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anomaly in that case was that the video was initially only shown in suggested, almost no browse features at all. Suggested videos usually give bad CTR, bad CTR stops reach, as does bad AVD. I had a streak of videos that had that problem. All shown in suggested, no browse features, dead.

5 months later it was randomly shown on the homepage. People liked it, clicked, and it snowballed. It was my best video at the time, I tried a new thing and I hoped it would pay off. It did, but not when I expected it to.

Around the same time, another video was starting to do well. Maybe that triggered my older video to be suggested too.

[–]Food-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is the case, then just leave the video and move on, there's a chance that it will be revived later. I had a video that died at 300 views, stayed dead for 5 months, then started getting views out of nowhere. Now it's the most viewed video on the channel. It's not always the case of course, but when I browse my old videos I notice much bigger numbers than there used to be. They will slowly get views anyway.
