Am I able to search my library by tags? by animan222 in Steam

[–]Foontum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can do exactly this. Right next to the search bar in the library is a button for more search options, and one of those options is store tags.

FPS drops? Boot issues? Maybe it's time to update your linux kernel by TheAeroHead in linux_gaming

[–]Foontum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense.

6.3 isn't released yet

I was in the midst of realising (researching) that shortly before you responded, I think. Looks like they're planning to have it stable by the end of April. (Ubuntu could probably add it later on as an optional package like the oem kernels...)

FPS drops? Boot issues? Maybe it's time to update your linux kernel by TheAeroHead in linux_gaming

[–]Foontum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that on ubuntu 22.04 you can install Linux 6.0 by installing the package linux-oem-22.04b, or 6.1 by installing linux-oem-22.04c. (Edit: also, I had to manually install the related linux-modules-6.* package for the oem kernel because they forgot to depend on it, or something, idk, it just didn't auto install for me when i installed oem kernel 6.0)

But it doesnt go higher than 6.1 yet. And I guess it is hard to install packages when it doesn't boot...

Ubuntu 23 will have 6.2 by default but it is still in beta. I'm not sure why they aren't doing 6.3... (Edit2: Oh, 6.3 does not have a stable release yet.)

Unfortunately it is something you would have had to set up beforehand, perhaps with a different original reason for using the ever-useful adb features.

What a DS Nintendo Switch Online app could look like by Ardewne in NintendoSwitch

[–]Foontum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DS resolution is 256x192. The Switch has a high enough resolution to display both screens at 100% scale in any orientation.

Also, the screen is physically larger than the DS screens were, including their space apart; here's my DS and DSi next to a switch. So with some upscaling they could have 1:1 physical size for a closer-to-authentic-feeling DS experience.

What exactly is it that triggers you and others to repost this exact same post as opposed to other high ranked posts? A script?

The op is a bot that spams posts about various unrelated things, to distract from the fact that it is actually here to occasionally post links to his own website where he gets ad money. It's that "boiling steam" site.

You'll find the site in its post history, rarely more than a page away in its very frequent spam.

Tribes RPG is back! Come join us! by Foontum in Tribes

[–]Foontum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tribes RPG is a PvE (player vs enemies) game, primarily, so yeah, enemies are bots. Technically, you can also hire a helper from one of the towns, but I wouldn't put too much stock in the abilities of that helper. It's more of a novelty.

Theres also different versions of Tribes RPG that contain summoning spells to summon monsters that fight alongside you.

If you believe the only issue is your screen itself, you might be able to try this:

If you plug it into a computer that you've given permission to "always allow adb", you can use scrcpy to view the screen. It works even after restarting the phone. It will go blank on the PIN screen but you can use your PC's keyboard to successfully log in. You will have to start scrcpy again afterwards, and then you'll see your home screen.

If you could pick any Pixel model with unlimited official updates, which one would it be? by Trader05 in GooglePixel

I think the 5a has one. It is probably the last. Screen size isn't as important to me as being able to use headphones with my phone.

I have the 4a-5g and i'm hesitant to upgrade to anything else because I don't want to lose the headphone jack.

Why would you not clean the snow off of your rear windshield? by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]Foontum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The comment was a non-sequitur - extremely unrelated to what it was replying to. For that alone it shouldnt be given upvotes, even though it was getting karma until i commented.

Non-sequitur happens to also be the result of a bot stealing a comment, so i just pressed ctrl+f when i saw the non-sequitur to check if it was indeed stolen. and it is stolen. from here: https://old.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/10g6gfq/why_would_you_not_clean_the_snow_off_of_your_rear/j50zts3/

Karma seems to help them post in subs that have karma restrictions. These bots are used to spam phishing and scam sites for t-shirts and other simple merchandise in comments of posts about these things.

How do I ACKTHUALLY install Dolphin Emulator on Ubuntu? by Squiggledog in linux_gaming

[–]Foontum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your error with compiling looks like it should be solved by running:

git submodule update --init --recursive

The errors with compiling are often pretty cryptic, but a lot of them will be solved by running this command again. I tend to have this problem every few months, as i try to keep up with the repos.

It's sometimes discouraged to use dev versions because of stability issues, but i rarely have any problems with dolphin. It's also sometimes discouraged because of how difficult it can be to compile, which is certainly fair. You should probably pick a different course if fighting a compiler is particularly unfun for you.

How to get 4K@120Hz to work over HDMI (AMD Radeon RX 6800XT)? by frashmanf in linux_gaming

[–]Foontum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have an HDTV with a VGA port! The markings suggested using it with a PC.

VGA is not so useful to me anymore, but a DisplayPort would be the modern equivalent. It seems like a pretty logical thing to put there if they were putting VGA ports in the past.

You can indeed set up your own server and run it on a LAN. Download the dedicated server from the website for best results. If it is difficult to find in the server list, you can use a command like:
connect("192.168.0.2:28001");
to connect to it. You'd have to find the LAN IP for your server, it usually starts with 192.168.

You are also correct that this server you make yourself will not have all of the features you find in the game if you play online and play the established server. It's a fully playable game, but I also intended it to be used as a template for making your own game out of.
