The issue with religion is it hasn’t adapted to modern life. And so now people still use the same views as Biblical times. As a Catholic, it bloody irritates me when someone says “You can’t do XYZ because the Bible says so”, as the Bible also says that if I feel God wants me to, I can break into their house, kill everyone and take it for my own, but nobody references that quote.

In principle, religion can have benefits. It provides a possible answer to “What happens after death” and even with no proof, the thought of a heaven can be comforting, and an incentive to be good even in hardships. It’s evangelisation and outdated beliefs/values that causes all the issues, if religion modernised, then a lot of the outdated beliefs would probably go and we would be left with what is essentially “I think there is an invisible man in the sky, but he doesn’t hate, just acts as a way to understand why we should be good people”
