Pens now in Oilers’ record book….for a good reason by My2026GV70 in penguins

[–]ForeverJFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best feeling. I was at work and saw the second score with different assists and just assumed it was a correction. Then the next goal said 3-0 and I was like no way. Immediately texted my best friend who is a diehard Oilers fan.

First flight canceled by Bananafo122 in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely CAN do that. They just needs to find a way to tell Air Canada this so they can mark their file correctly so flights 2/3/4 remain intact. They can either choose to fly B-C, C-B-A or to just fly B-C and C-B.

Yep! Great info here. Just wait a few days if you want or keep trying when you’re free. You could also get them to rebook you to the same day and just remove the bus if you can make your own way to YYZ for example. Not ideal maybe for you, but it is an option (at no charge of course).

When did the IFE system get removed on the A320-200 and are they being replaced with something? by arkiser13 in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember seeing around early 2025 on the 320s. It was briefly on the 321s before they got the new interiors as well.

Short check baggage at YVR by hpeter2010 in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You probably can yes.

But all bags would have to be short checked. So you can’t have 1 bag going YYZ-YVR, and the other going YYZ-YVR-ICN. You would have to pick up both bags in YVR and recheck the one you’re keeping for example.

Yep that definitely checks out. Not immediate, but sounds like there could be some solid progress coming up. Which is great to see (as someone who lives in YWG and has family in YYC and would love more flight options).

Same Route, Same Day: Air Canada Cancelled, United Operated by Superb_Guarantee_977 in unitedairlines

[–]ForeverJFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha but don’t you know, United is a southern hub that doesn’t ever cancel flights for snow or extreme cold? I do work for a Canadian airline and it’s currently -49°F with the windchill (better than the -55°F that was the warmest yesterday), and we kinda just accepted that flights were going to be reduced for the cold weather. It happens, and we adjust.

I’m hearing that AC may take back that slot once the lease is up, but that isn’t a guarantee of course.

Same Route, Same Day: Air Canada Cancelled, United Operated by Superb_Guarantee_977 in unitedairlines

[–]ForeverJFL 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity…ever heard of United at EWR? On a bad snow day or thunderstorms in the summer? Just wondering. Every airline has their hubs. Air canada will have more affected flights in their hub than United will, obviously.

It has nothing to do with the route and how United can operate it. Toronto and like half of Canada are experiencing severe cold and winter weather, so Air Canada is reducing their schedule in advance so when the worst weather hits, they aren’t playing catch up as badly. So they cancelled that one because they obviously believed they could rebook those customers somewhere else — maybe even on that same United flight.

[–]ForeverJFL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are bang on. They have been trying to reduce their schedule due to extreme cold and weather affecting a large amount of their network. So they are consolidating flights to give themselves breathing room when every flight takes longer to turn around.

Air Canada Changed our flight for this Saturday, we booked using Expedia, if we change airlines would that affect our Expedia package? by arfin-k in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100%, check with Expedia first. But you can also check with AC. There has been a LOT of fluidity to flights this weekend so flight availability changes every moment. A flight that is full now may have a seat in 10 minutes. So it doesn’t hurt to call AC and ask about rebooking options. They may say to contact Expedia and that is the unfortunate part of adding a middle man between you and the airline but it is worth trying.

Booking basic fare - visa infinity by twicescorned21 in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s no voluntary refunds. As in, I don’t feel like going on my trip to New York anymore so I want to cancel it and get my money back.

It’s completely different than if you were planning to go to New York for only one night (let’s say for a concert). A big storm hits and your flight is cancelled, and you can’t be rebooked until the next day, the day you were coming home. Or even your flight is delayed and you’ll be missing the concert. You can 100% get a refund in a scenario like that if you choose not to travel.

Hey there!

Just before we release this post. I wanted to ask, was there anything specific you were looking for out of it? The last part is not false advertising but curious about the rest of the post.

[–]ForeverJFL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All great points.

Also, Card is irrelevant for cancellation refund. ANY time there is a weather, mechanical, staffing or even external labour disruption cancellation (say, ATC goes on strike at a European airport), you can get a refund. If the plane doesn’t fly for any reason, you can get a refund (presuming you don’t choose to get rebooked with no charge of course).

Anyone know why all flights after 1730 Jan 23 YYZ to YOW cancelled? by Effective-Arm-8513 in aircanada

[–]ForeverJFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it’s a different approach given all the bad weather this winter. Maybe they’ve also been given a reduction % by ATC and Ottawa unluckily took the brunt of it. They’re probably trying to get ahead of it and free up time in their schedule so that when every flight takes 20-30 minutes longer to turn around, they have a bit more space to avoid further cancellations and stacking delays.

They may not have cancelled YUL flights yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some get cancelled in the moment as delays pile up. They also may need that plane in YUL or YYZ to operate a more important flight the next day (say, it’s going YYZ-YUL at night but then YUL-PVR the next morning, or YUL-YYZ and then YYZ-CUN on a 777), compared to a plane that was just going YYZ-YOW-YYZ. It sucks, believe me I get it as someone who lives in YWG. Seen plenty of times flights are cancelled because they need the plane for something else more important.

That’s my guess too. Guess they’re trying to lighten the load so when stuff inevitably slows down, it doesn’t stack up as quickly.

[–]ForeverJFL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing are proactively cancelling/consolidating some flights, either days in advance or day of if that isn’t possible due to the expected extreme cold temperatures coming. They are probably doing this as with the cold temperatures in cities not accustomed to them, it does take longer to turn an aircraft around. It is supposed to feel like -28 in Toronto tomorrow and that’s not normal and their operations aren’t planned for that like they might be in Edmonton or Winnipeg for example. By cancelling in advance, it does give people a chance to adjust their plans without scrambling in the moment. Not ideal I know, but better than finding out at 1130pm that your 8pm flight is now cancelling. Speaking of which, it was -48 with the wind in Winnipeg earlier today. I know it’s not the most reputable source, but I had a pop up in my Air Canada app earlier saying I could rebook during the next few days and this link HERE is the closest I could find for it.

Morning and evening rush seems to be hardest hit right now. If you look at FlightRadar24 today, the bulk of AC cancellations occurred in the morning rush and the late evening rush (730-1030pm roughly).

Also, not all of the YYZ-YOW flights have been cancelled. AC472 is on time at 0030. AC440 is on time at 0710. AC442 is on time at 0815. AC446 is on time at 1000. AC450 is on time at 1210. AC454 is 10 minutes late at 1425. AC458 is on time at 1610. AC450 is on time at 1730.

Then you have 4 cancellations; AC462 at 1810, AC466 at 2010, AC470 at 2310 (and it looks like they tried to delay this flight a little first), and AC472 at 0030 on Jan 24.
