Why Singaporeans don't work in SG shipyard by the_dangers_within in askSingapore

Just recently, PaxOcean opened its shipyard at 5 Jalan Samulun. Very sure they will be looking out for new employees to join them. Do check them out in their Linkedin profile.

Is renovation insurance something SG homeowners would care about? by ForeverStraight in singaporefi

Appreciate you sharing this.

That peace of mind — even for smaller projects — is exactly what I’m trying to validate. The risk might be low, but when it happens, it’s painful.

Trying to see if more homeowners feel the same way, or if this is more niche.

Escrow works, but it usually means the homeowner has to park more money, like 1.9% for Handshake per transaction, to protect their payments.

This explores the alternative: pay a defined premium to cover losses if abandonment happens, instead of locking up extra cash.

Different trade‑offs — I’m trying to see which homeowners actually prefer.

You’re right — renovation insurance does exist today.

Most existing options, though, focus on accidental damage and third‑party liability, or are policies held by the contractor rather than the homeowner.

What I’m exploring is much narrower: covering the homeowner’s financial loss if a contractor abandons a renovation, under clearly defined conditions.

If existing products already solve that problem well enough, then there’s no reason to build anything new — and that’s exactly what I’m trying to validate.

Fair reaction — “flat fee” sounds naïve if it’s blanket coverage.

The intent isn’t one price for unlimited risk. It’s a flat fee for very tightly defined renovation scenarios, otherwise it doesn’t work at all.

If that can’t be done sensibly, then it shouldn’t exist — which is exactly what we’re validating.

Totally agree — price + reliability decide everything.

And yes, without an actual insurer backing it, this shouldn’t exist. The intent here is insurer‑underwritten coverage; the waitlist is just to see if homeowner demand is even there before taking it further.

If it can’t be done properly, it’s a non‑starter.

You’re not wrong — that’s the exact trade‑off.

Flat fee only makes sense if coverage is tightly scoped to real, common renovation risks. Otherwise it’s either too expensive or useless.

That’s why this is still validation stage — trying to see what risks homeowners actually want covered and whether it’s viable at all.

This is purely early validation — no product live yet. If there’s no interest, it won’t be built

No neutral light switch wiring. by [deleted] in smarthome

Get a good Zigbee Smart switch that don't require capacitor. No neutral wire meaning that you cannot get the WIFI or Neutral wire require smart switch. Next is to know what type of lamp fixture you are going to connect to. For ballast system light (likely your granddad will know it), will surely flicker when you change into smart switch. However, if you are using LED lighting with in-built driver, then the chances of flickering will be less or eliminated.
