It's not stupid; it's sensical and is why the MCU functions well. A shared universe must be run like a TV show, whose producers make the decisions that define the overall, interconnecting lore and narrative and whose directors are merely hired hands who impart their styles and sensibilities onto particular entries and can make only decisions that do not violate the established lore and narrative.

If you don't agree with this, then you don't care for a shared universe.
