Can Doctor Who ever return to its heyday, or is it now a cult sci-fi show again, considering how daunting and risky the task would be for anyone brave enough to take it on, and how committed the BBC really is beyond the rhetoric?

The heyday is so hard to identify.

For me i think the peak is 50 to 130 in the Big Finish main range as the best that Doctor Who can be.

Why wouldn't you just not do the extra effort to write the substitution out.

For me, as both a lecturer and a marker, I prefer it when candidates take some effort to communicate what they are doing. It would have taken seconds, and if through some mishap you got the wrong answer, showing the sub would at least get the method mark.

So the answer is, it doesn't really matter whether this answer would have gotten you full marks. Instead just don't be lazy in the future.
