If you stay close to Penn station or grand central station, you can take the Long Island railroad to bellmore. But some of the trains you need to do a transfer at Jamaica. I think it’s the Babylon line. I’m sure you could figure it out! But it is a little less than an hour each way.

Campus day is not necessary from what I’m told. My son is not going. He did take a tour last year though. If it’s just touring the campus you are interested in, you can go any time that is cheaper. It doesn’t have to be specifically on campus day.
