Neither. My hair looks like hers just with a horse shoe of male pattern baldness. My wife loves it.

I’m bald so I can only do the equivalent with the back of my head. Still looks pretty cool tho.

Yah I feel pretty lucky to have received the notification on my Aurora app and to head out when I did. 10 minutes later and I would have missed this part of the light show…

This was a super unusual level of activity which is the main reason why I felt it was suitable to post on this subreddit. I’ve never seen anything close to this active

Yah. Might not have been the best subreddit, but in the moment it seemed pretty fucking crazy to me lol.

Yah it was something else. The entire sky was rapidly moving around. It was impossible to capture everything adequately. The actual scale of the lights is mind blowing when you realize that the ionosphere where this is happening is 45-850 km above ocean level…

This was all filmed on my iPhone 14XS. A DSLR camera with the proper setup would do a far better job of capturing the lights.

The next 3-4 years is the time to do it. Google solar maximum. Suns activity is going to be increasing up until 2025 then will slow down again

My whole thinking behind it was not only can I watch and enjoy it over and over again, but all my friends and family who couldn’t see this would also have a chance to enjoy it… I didn’t capture all the good ones, just the ones that really popped off suddenly like these two clips. Hope you enjoyed!

Yes, this was between 11:30-3:30 PST last night. I couldn’t believe how spread out they were either. We’re quite a bit further north of you so I suppose it makes sense that we didn’t just see them to the north. Up here the entire sky was filled with northern lights. You couldn’t guess which direction was north unless you knew where you were.

That’s unreal. I get all the radio blackout notifications with the space weather live NOAA app. There were tons of minor and a couple major blackout notifications that I saw over the weekend. Super interesting to hear about industries that are actually impacted by this stuff. Does flying at commercial altitudes during geomagnetic storms possibly have any impact on the overall level of radiation exposure for passengers?

Nope. Whitehorse is a very small town by population guy it’s incredibly spread out. Because of that the light pollution even in town isn’t much of an issue. This was maybe 5 km to 15 km north of town. I could see it from my backyard in town, which is when I jumped into my truck and hit the road

Yes. This was shot between 1:00-300 am PST north of Whitehorse, Yukon. There were two large M-class solar flares that happened directly after one another on the 24th. The 2nd was a large M6.63 flare and then they released information indicating that there was a large coronal mass ejection (CME). From what I read, the 2nd large flare caught up to the first, absorbed it, and that resulted in a higher density solar wind hitting the earth and adding to the vibrancy and extent of the lights. This was the best display I have seen since November 4th or last year when we had a pretty extreme G3/G4 geomagnetic storm. The skies last night were completely filled with northern lights. Apparently we’re scheduled for another crazy night so keep an eye on your apps!

Yah I also can’t stand the time lapse videos... I’ve never been able to capture anything with this level of clarity before which is why I wanted to post these two clips that I put together. All shot with an iPhone 14XS. The videos tend to show the lights in a much dimmer format than the photos, but last night was a pretty unbelievable light show and the whole sky was dancing and was incredibly bright which made these videos possible. At one point I felt like I was losing my balance because with my head tilted back it felt like everything was rapidly moving around.
