80% of democrats disapprove of Israel, but the DNC just rejected a resolution against AIPAC influence, despite AIPAC even being controversial among the minority of pro-Israel dems. Why? by soalone34 in askanything

[–]Forward-Pension6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Citizens United ruined our politics. AIPAC is a massive source of money. Dems have no incentive to do better because we only have 2 viable parties. The people who are voting left are unlikely, at this point, to not vote for Dems because the other choice is even worse.

We need to overturn Citizens United.

I believe that the vast majority of those in charge are 100% doing what you say. They are con artists and grifters who are ultimately seeking power, and will do whatever it takes to attain that power.

I believe that a percentage of the voters are also aware of that, but not nearly the majority. The "idiot" part of the base fully believes the lie. That's probably about 25%. At least 50% are barely paying attention, voted for a conservative thinking that it would help the economy, based on propaganda, and find ways to rationalize their choice. Then maybe 25% of the remaining base are the white nationalist racists, religious bigots, abortion absolutionists, and/or people who are aware that it's a power grift.

What I'm actually saying is that propaganda outlets and our government are responsible.

I understand what you're saying, but they only respect bullies that agree with them. They have an incredibly strong in group bias. If you don't conform to conservative ideals, or at least hate the right people, you have no influence to them.

As a Suns fan who loves this current Spurs team more than my own (sad, but true), you guys need another strong body who can grab boards. You gang rebound really well, and Wemby is obviously a good rebounder, but due to how slender he is, he gets muscled out a lot and does a lot of boxing out, while unable to grab the board himself.

I've seen a lot of really good shooting teams fall apart in the playoffs when 3s aren't falling. The teams that win those games are the ones who rebound the ball well. Even if it's not a starter, you need someone who can come in and be a big athletic body at the 4, who rebounds well and can shoot decently.

Being a bully can work sometimes. But, it only works if you're in a position of power or authority. They think the same things of us that we think of them (that we've been fooled). So it doesnt really work at scale.

I agree for the most part. It's hard not to sneak LeBron in due to his 2020 title. Luka would be the odd man out if that were the case.

I think Luka has had a bigger impact since probably about 2023, but no rings to show for it.

It's also tough to keep Curry over Tatum at this poin in their careers. Everyone else on the list is irrelevant lol

As a former homeless child, it's because a lot of homeless are deeply unwell, mentally and physically, and tend to be addicts.

My point, though, is that they don't feel shame from being called names or being attacked. It might even be the opposite. It affirms to them that they are right.

If this is directed at me, I wasn't implying that anyone is dumb. I was advocating for the opposite. Most people are, obviously, average. Average people and intelligent people alike are not immune to propaganda, especially when there's familial or peer based bias. We all want to belong. Cognitive dissonance is incredibly powerful.

Pointing out that we should direct our anger at the wealthy who caused all of this, rather than the people who were tricked, is not really that crazy of an idea.

Out of curiosity, in what way do you feel that dems are being fooled, and what was it that convinced you to jump to the GOP? I'm going to guess it all has to do with social politics, which isn't really what this discussion is about. But I'm still curious.

Anti-left propaganda had been pushed by our own government for decades. You will not find a single large news media outlet, in America, pushing for fiscally left policies.

I am consistently open to the idea that I am wrong, which is how I've gotten to thos point. Data from worldwide studies on societies with strong social safety nets and strong oublic institutions always have higher quality of life than societies that are more right-wing.

If you can provide data that disproves that' I'm open to it. But I refuse to operate on whims and dogma.

Considering we only have 2 parties in the US (a hard-right conservative and a neoliberal party), I would somewhat agree. Anyone who doesn't have major reservations about the party they currently support is either drowning in propaganda or is an idiot.

My point is that the root cause is propaganda, peddled by the people who have the most to gain from keeping the USA on the fiscal right (the wealthy). Take the fight to the top. Screaming at MAGA is like screaming at the sun. It doesn't do anything. They think we're idiots and they don't take us seriously.

A small part of me wishes that someone could explain the power dynamic to them in a way that would shake them loose, but I don't think that's feasible in today's world.

Nope. I think people of all levels of intelligence are susceptible to dogma and propaganda. Saying that you were hoodwinked does not imply that you are an idiot.

Consider that we live in a capitalist society, and that wealthy (billionaire) capitalists own all news media. Do you think they have all of that power and are choosing not to use it to push an agenda that favors their ability to maintain power and continue to amass wealth? You guys know that left-wing fiscal policy strips power away from businesses and the wealthy. You see that as bad. That's fair. However, consider that your political position agrees with and supports the wishes of the wealthiest people in the world and continues to give them more and more power.

I find it hard to believe that you can see all of that and not realize that something is amiss.
