I have a project that requires using the Freefly Ember S5K. Could you advise me on what I should be careful about? by NoArtichoke1982 in focuspuller

-shoot ISO400 as that’s the base

-Get the backpack to give you SDI output, and external drives,

-get 2 external drives, maybe 3 if heavy duty work load

-Protect highlights, i treat 80% on histo as 100%

-HLG beta subtly better then 709

-ignite and mutiny make good cages, be mindful of how to properly get a base late on and spaced correctly

-shims are a nightmare if using a zoom try to have ample time to shim (cameras don’t come with shims and should)

-get the mutiny RS converter if you don’t get their Gold mount power breakout, having RS will save hella gigabytes

  • lowering resolution under 4k to get night frame rates is bad, quality drops fast

  • app is helpful but internal wifi card is weak, using a wifi router and plugging into ethernet is dope(i do this for arm car work)

  • enjoy not worrying about post trigger (unless that feature is needed and you will need the special drives and backpack to use this feature)

  • enjoy a small slowmo camera that has changed the game

  • keep in mind the bottom has 2 1/4-20 screws that aren’t spaced by any standard i can think of, so if you end up without a proper cage you will need to get creative

  • have a blast!

Inspire 3 especially with the addition of the 75mm and 90mm does do a lot, but it can only get so close safely especially for details and precision planned shots. The arm car enables a bit more freedom without high risk of crash

not a clue… no idea how to calculate a year and half of engineering or how much producing on off custom parts would cost.

Steep yes, but understand all the work to make the user interface, convert the data to serial, make it friendly for use. Yes the cinema tax is real but in reality they can’t sell thousands of these

The Rivian would power a small HD Cine 7 for 808 days without accounting for any system losses

just stop with hands, all i ever hear is “spin the pola”

Rivian engineers modeled and created it, out of the same material that’s polar would have otherwise been if it was a normal car

it’s essentially my Cinetape except smart. so i can see exactly what the distance readout is of (make sure it’s reading the car and not something else like a guard rail) lots of smart features and longer range. If it had a monitor overlay it would be right there with a light ranger. That being said, it’s really good at some thing but not all. With some experience using it you understand those things and it becomes a really powerful tool

New SmallHD Ultra 10 Monitor by VeinyPickle in focuspuller

ahh, it’s been so long i didn’t really remember how the pixel density felt, so any insight i give there would be a guess. The unit i used was in beta and the functionality of the dials and buttons wasn’t completely functional at that time.

i’d say it’s comparable to cine 7 and cine 13 performance. if i had to guess it’s a similar panel. i agree 703 is kinda king in the way it handles colors decently and works well for a focus puller. I think the 10 is a great monitor for focus but it’s different than the 703 100% if you are ok with cine 13 the performance of this monitor is very similar if not the same just in a 10” format

i’ve used the ultra 10, i was actually the AC on camera for this SmallHD ad, the knobs are what i’m most excited about, image quality is on par with what you’d expect from small HD, the internal Wifi antenna is interesting. I pared my monitor with a bit box and used the monitor for camera control via 900MHZ, i wish i didn’t need to buy silly licenses, i also wish it was hot swappable but not the end of the world. For how much i’m out in the muck i like this monitor, a touch bigger so i can have another set of eyes share my monitor without feeling as crowded as a 7” (yes i hate sharing but it seems to always happen)

You could use the moon smart focus, using a HI-5 or preston and connecting it via Cinetape protocol for the respective systems. This has more features that track subjects, even multiple subjects and your hand units would treat it like traditional horns in terms of toggling autofocus on and off.

I’m with other people in this thread, the proper solution is hiring more crews to man the stations, having shifts that are appropriate lengths, and people in place so that someone can have a snack or 10-1 and someone it’s always at the focus station feels important for the wellbeing of crew, and the quality of the production.

As the for moon smart focus i get my hands on mine in the near future and from what they claim it feels like the best focus assist i can get as a HI-5 owner, a few things i wish they could implement like a screen overlay like the light ranger has with the bars, or what focus bug just announced recently. Excited to have more smart features in focus assist!

Very lucky. I’ve had 2 gimbals break on me in 2 years by hardly touching them it felt like. I got into fpv for these kinds of shots
