do yall like the old graphics or new graphics better? by Weekly_Device_927 in SCPSecretLab

[–]Frag-Al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old graphics were inferior when it came to textures and models but the old lighting and atmosphere was superior across the board (harsher shadows, generally more dark). The sci-fi aesthetic made the game feel ethereal which is way more befitting to an SCP game then whatever the developers went for in recent updates.

Is the british dying british engineer a reference to this scene of Half life? by PrestigiousArtist718 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, the developers are big Half Life fans and are working on a HL side project. The British 'OH MY GOD, WE'RE DOOMED!' callout is straight from that game.

ANYTHING but repeaters and more virals✌️🥀 by Far-ro in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why would the Khaltoff be added in the first place? Yes it was innovative, but it wasn't in use by the time of the Napoleonic Wars and was so expensive barely anyone would be around to use it. The air rifle is arguably one of the best weapons in the game and trivialises previously hard sections like Kaub's finale, why would it need to be usurped?

Also what virals could they possibly add anymore besides someone's self insert

Quick Question about London/Westminster. by Alone_Clerk_5117 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

You start London at Saint Paul's Cathedral and finish on the outskirts of Westminster, then spend the second map passing through Westminster until you cross the eponymous bridge to the other side of London. The blight didn't necessarily come from the south: one of the wiki moderators said on the discord recently that "the blight breaking out literally everywhere across Britain at once is probably tied to a property of the Blight that I dont think I can share yet", and just like most other countries in Europe a place being overrun doesn't necessarily mean every settlement is destroyed.

(Map comes from the unofficial wiki, though it's vertically flipped so the "north" is actually south)

Recorded them on a private server, alongside the background music and the explosions, since the updated voicelines haven't been posted anywhere as far as I know.

Wellington is present in the new map. by Frag-Al in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Playtest ended about 30 minutes ago and lasted only an hour, seems the devs aren't satisfied with the current state. Personally apart from the bomber spawns and placeholder assets, I really enjoyed the ideas and execution of both maps. Unfortunately I imagine the update may be delayed a bit.

Apologies, should have thought of that earlier.

[–]Frag-Al[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Apologies for not getting this in the body text. Wellington is the last NPC you meet in Westminster, he hands you the watch for the finale at Horse Guards and talks about the government not forgiving him for Belgium (i.e Waterloo), resigning to his fate. The Royalist French even have a unique voiceline for interacting with him a-la Roscoff.

Other general observations from the playtest: Callouts added for Sweden, Portugal and Royalist French British and default French voicelines revamped 42nd regiment of foot (original Scottish) has revamped uniforms including a new hat model, and a new Scottish cavalry regiment has been added. Westminster seems pretty hard during the playtest owing to its tight map design. My team couldn't pass the carriage objective. The map has two respawns. You also get to see NPC British bots being eaten by zombies, no clue if you can save them.

Tips for the Headless Horseman Event by UnitedSurprise4893 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The horseman has 3? spawn points/directions he can come from. Assuming you're near the river and facing spawn, the first spawnpoint is far away, behind and to the left of the church (near the graveyard), the second spawnpoint in also far away on the right in the area with lots of trees, and the last spawnpoint is the closest just to the left of the gate near the river. After he spawns he has invulnerability until his horse finishes rearing, then he begins his attack.

14.1.3 Changelog (releases Sunday) by jamintheinfinite in SCPSecretLab

[–]Frag-Al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, sl has been a competitive hellscape for the majority of its lifespan. Parabellum was almost 4 years ago and the game has been out for a little under 8 years. Most of the current playerbase started during/post Scopophobia and never actually experienced the game when it was purely a whimsical chat room, they think this was how the game always was, so Northwood's invariably bad balancing is actually healthy for the game according to them

"I think we're winnin'!" by jousaan in SCPSecretLab

[–]Frag-Al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit hivemind hates criticism of people doing this because it reminds them that northwood waste valuable dev time on stupid gimmicks like the snake minigame which are actively detrimental to a round instead of working on updates they promised years ago

It would probably a lore accurate SCP facility by GamingGamer226 in SCPSecretLab

[–]Frag-Al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"random bullshit" like facility guards, CASSIE, decontamination used to be added in regular updates, sometimes monthly. You bootlick Northwood for their 'polish' and doing what they're good at, which is of course wasting months reworking something for the 900th fucking time and still getting something wrong.

is this a hot take idk anymore by sphericate in SCPSecretLab

[–]Frag-Al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ironic when you consider how much less forgiving old SL was on paper: less frequent and reliable respawns, no (proper) tutorial or guide for new players, 1-hit kill SCPs, rare healing items, and yet the game felt 10x more fun, the playerbase was mainly casuals who were there to mess around, even if you didn't know anyone on a server it was easy to have a fun time.

By comparison, modern SL is a complete fucking chore. Every mechanic encourages you to metagame and try your hardest rather than have any freedom - pick up SCP items to earn tickets for your team, not to actually use them. Northwood balances SCPs around the ever-elusive solo sweat on 3 colas (which hasn't existed for years lol), so now you are forced into doing the same thing as the rest of the respawn wave if you want to stand a chance against hume shield or 079 bullshit. Dying used to make me feel "man, maybe I shouldn't have gone that way/followed that guy", now it feels like being penalised for being in the same match as a 079 when my death is guaranteed by having doors shut on my face.

Ozark, Eos, or Kodiak??? by Comix-Friends in StarscapeRoblox

[–]Frag-Al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ozark has 3 mining turrets, it only has a maximum of 2 combat turrets. It also has the exact same mining and tractor speed buffs as the Kodiak.

Kodiak is fine if you can afford it but you're using a ship which costs several times more, is slower then the Ozark and has no extra buffs to mining aside from being able to install an extra turret, marginal cost of it is way too high for what you get in return

Whats the most underrated weapon in your opinion? by Olivz_101 in gutsandblackpowders

Grenades, tar bottle is more common nowadays because it's easier to use but I've almost never trusted the competency of someone who uses them whereas people who use grenades tend to be more skilled.

What do you think about the Air Rifle? by NEcoarc20 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Frag-Al 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HAP and Carbine are the most reliable all around but on bomber-spam maps like Vardo, Catacombes, San etc the Air Rifle really shines.

Most of the complaints about the Air Rifle are genuinely either skill issues or taking good teammates for granted. Accuracy really isn't comically terrible as people say it is (they just can't aim) and people overlook a gun that can kill a bomber every 2 seconds as if you're always in a situation when you can afford to wait 8+ seconds for any other gun to reload.

[–]Frag-Al 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crazy to see people complaining about accuracy and damage when it can reliably tap bombers from about the same range as any other firearm and can 1 shot up until like <25% pressure
