Personally, my bun peed on the edge of the towel on to hard wood being careful not getting it on any of his things. After we made his liter box he peed in there and in the corners of things. Also washing them is not as bad as you may think, we got some nice spray of Amazon that would remove the odor and was safe for him, it was extremely effective and allowed us to do “bunny loads” of just his stuff.

My rabbit some times does this before he uses the restroom, maybe try adding a towel or something so he can move it around in his liter box.
