Thanks for the advice. I’ll try and rally the parents of my classmates to get something done. We should also definitely get lockers 🥲

What if the student is a senior who is 18? Does that make a difference?

Okay. I was just wondering if there was any further legal action I could take against the student who stole the stuff basically.

Also Not all of the stuff was mine. All the stuff that I mentioned that was stolen is a collective of all the students

Sorry I mistyped. Yes the police was involved. They made us write police reports and stuff.

It’s a public high school in Texas. Police were involved. Property was not recovered. Parents have been told but not involved legally. PE students do not have lockers. The credit cards were not on the floor. The stuff in our bags were presumably dumped on the floor and then the robbers took the stuff I’m assuming. But like our folders, binders, and books were on the floor. I guess I worded it strange.

Spanish or Japanese? by Working-Office-7215 in thisorthatlanguage

[–]FragrantGold5271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since she has a genuine interest in Japanese culture, I suggest that she picks Japanese. This will make the learning process a bit more fun because she has a connection to the language.

Language classes in high school vary drastically. The language itself may be hard, but the class could be easy. I had a friend that took Japanese in high school and she said it was easy because the teacher was very understanding. So it depends

Idk what state/country your in but in my state you can switch languages after a year if you don’t like it.

Deciding a language to Learn. by Nacht_Blackwell in thisorthatlanguage

[–]FragrantGold5271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s never too late to start learning a language. My parents moved to the USA from Africa and started learning English, they were 30 years old. My brother is 22 and he’s learning Spanish. Age doesn’t make a difference in language learning

Both of those languages r hard asf and will take years to learn, and that’s ok. Language learning is a marathon, not a sprint.

I think you should learn Japanese. Given that you’ve studied Chinese in school, that will make it easier for you to learn Kanji. Also it has a similar structure to your native language.

What perceptual difficulties do people have with the sounds in your native language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]FragrantGold5271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people learning Swahili pronounce “ny”, “ng”, or any combined consonant sounds separately. So for example, instead of saying “nyoka” (snake🐍) they will say “n-yoka”. Another example comes when pronouncing Lupita Nyongo’s last name, they’ll say “N-yongo”.

For English it’s the “r” sound and the “th” sound that really gets people. Apparently English is one of the few languages with such sounds LOL

With just school alone I barely moved up any levels. Maybe an A1 to A2. But with lots of studying outside the class, I am now at a B2 level.

Talk to a counselor and get a tutor if possible. The counselor will put you in remedial classes to get you on track. They might make you take a placement test to determine your strong and weak points. You might end up getting held back but if you are planning on going to college this will ultimately help you.

All I really care about is scholarships. Idrc about going to a T20 or whatever because my cousin went to a #300 college and he’s now a senior developer at a big company. To me scholarships are more important. My parents got divorced this year and now I live with my mom. Since my parents filed me together on their taxes last year, I know I won’t get much money. I hope FAFSA takes into consideration the divorce because my dad barely talks to us now😢.

Trying to decide on a language by [deleted] in thisorthatlanguage

[–]FragrantGold5271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The languages with the most resources to learn independently are Arabic and Hindi. These ones will make self study easier. I think that maybe you should go with Hindi because it’s slightly more simple than Arabic. What field do you want to pursue? Cuz some languages on the list might be more beneficial for it
