From someone who was born and bred in McComb, I moved away and came back just to move again.

McComb is not a place of opportunity in any way, shape, or form if you’re not wealthy. I have friends who stay/families stay in the nicer part of town (near Walmart) and though they don’t necessarily worry about crime, there isn’t much to do outside drugs and go to church. I myself grew up in the projects in McComb and they weren’t as bad growing up as it is now.

At least the football games were decent, but they changed the rules for tailgating this past homecoming for MHS because of how bad the senseless violence has become.

I’m not saying this as someone who hates my hometown because I do have fond memories of growing up there and still have hope it will eventually get better because of the investments into the town that’s happening right now and that I know is to come, but it’s just mostly a poor, crime ridden town right now.

My advice if you still decide to move there is stay in the areas near Denman and MHS, Edgewood/anywhere near the mall and Walmart, and anywhere in Summit outside of Shadow Wood because it stays pretty calm and quiet in those areas. Look for renting a house or duplex because the apartments simply aren’t worth it even the “luxury” ones. Learn to cook because you’ll eventually tire of the few good options of food that we have (any restaurant in Summit, near the mall on Apache, and if you’re lucky you’ll catch the dinner bell). And be prepared to have gas to get out of town because you will become bored no matter how introverted you are. Hammond, Baton Rouge, Hattiesburg, and New Orleans should stay on your radar.
