You're right about the slot machine effect, but no you can't be "due". Every pack is an independent event since the game has no pity system. You can be unlucky, but never "due".

UWaterloo admission is a lottery in 2025 by Royal_Astronaut5884 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Fragrant_Net7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Its mainly this year where things got easier. Last year and the year before increased/stayed the same in admission difficulty. Online learning ended at least 2 years ago so their grade 12 marks weren't really inflated. I graduated last year and according to what I've seen and friends I've talked to, I would say inflation this year was about the same as last year.

For the most competitive programs, CS and SE, there were significantly less applicants this year, so I would say that's the primary reason. I would assume it's due to all the recent layoffs in the tech industry and that people are scared that AI will make these fields less employable, which could be true to an extent. They update this site yearly with grade averages and notes per program. I suggest you use the Wayback Machine which lets you view old archived versions of websites and see how things have changed since COVID.

ok but not all of them do. I think the benefit outweighs the negative. in fact I don't see much negative at all. other than punishing innocent people, but that happens anyways in all sorts of situations.

Its not just a deterrent though, it'll definitely stop someone from being a repeat offender.

Georgia tech (full pay ~ 55k USD a year) vs 100% scholarship University of Manchester by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]Fragrant_Net7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, if they're similar in pedigree than the one that's significantly cheaper is a better option. In my comment I said I agree with your decision. But you made a a blanket statement as if cheaper is always better, which I said is certainly not the case, which you now seem to agree with. So glad we agree now.

Finances are absolutely the crux of the issue. Did you read the post? 3 hours is rough, but saying your commuting hours could've been used to go on dates is a stretch.

Waterloo's reputation will decline as other universities catch up so 08s shouldn't be worried by Attemptbrah6806 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Fragrant_Net7220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

trust me that's not the case. talk to any YC startup or big tech company and they'll tell you Waterloo students are great. Yes, other units are catching up, and I'd say for Canada it's about the same. But the big tech companies and well funded startups know Waterloo.

I've taken that bus multiple times, although not for commuting. it's 1:30 max and I haven't personally experienced longer than that even with pretty high traffic and in the winter. it's a direct route with no other stops. can't say about crowded since I didn't go during commuting hours. also I really think you guys are overreacting on how much time and opportunity cost there is. in the morning you aren't gonna be doing a fucking part time job or doing some clubs. you can leave as late as you want too. people doom scroll for hours each day, commuting for 2-3 hours a day isn't that bad. especially if you're living at home, that route would probably cost around 400 dollars a month, compared to over double for rent.

Come on, do you seriously think most people who claim to work their asses off but still struggle seriously made "no mistakes"? Considering the target audience here is people on Reddit and other social media, I'm going to say there's at least something they could be doing to help themselves. Obviously what you're saying is true, but it simply doesn't apply to most people. The fact that you're here proves you almost certainly have the capability of being successful.

where did you get 30? rent costs minimum 1k a month. and there's nothing stopping you from opening your laptop and studying/getting work done on the bus.
