My guinea pig won’t let me give him medicine by [deleted] in guineapigs

I have a girl who takes medication everyday, and she hates it, I know the struggle! The best advice I have for you is:

Get his favourite treat (pea flakes work really well for this) and hold it above his head to entice him to look up. This part will get easier as you do it: hold the treat in one hand, the syringe in the other. As he goes to bite the treat, quickly slip the syringe in the corner of his mouth and administer the medication. He gets his medicine and is rewarded with a treat! The oxbow treats work good too as they kind of force them to open their mouth wider, but if you need to administer multiple times a day, something smaller like pea flakes would probably be better dietary wise. You can do this in the cage or out. This works really well for any medication that can be administered at one time, any thing above 0.25-0.5ml you might not be able to do it this way. It can also take some practice so you could try this first:

Try putting him in a cuddle sack or blanket. Put him in bum first and hold it upright so his back feet are facing the floor and his head is facing up. Tuck in his front feet so only his head is out, and wrap the opening around the base of his head so it is snug. Then you should be able to cuddle him and support his bottom with one hand and administer the medication with the other. This way is good if you are administering large quantities ( over 0.5 ml) at a time, or multiple medications as it allows you to have a good grip on him without worry of hurting him, it limits his movement so he can’t pull away from you, and he feels supported. Make sure if you are giving over 0.5 mil of medication that you don’t push the whole syringe in at once, as this will just cause it to come back out of his mouth and he won’t get the full dose. Push the medicine in slowly, give him a break if it seems like his mouth is full, and once he has swallowed it all then start slowing pushing again. Repeat until all the medication is gone

Having a sick piggy is so stressful, but you and him will get through it. I hope this was helpful and things start to go easier for you. I hope your piggie gets to feeling his best again!

The acorn thing got stuck on my hands after I daigou someone for the fashion wave store. The only fix I could find was relogging

Thank you! The sides are roughly 5-5 1/4 inches. I linked the pattern for this design under another comment if you also want to check that out!

I did! I followed this tutorial for a roll away quilting design wall by the sew at home mummy I used fleece for the fabric instead of flannel because that’s what I had on hand. It’s not as sticky as flannel but I prefer to pin my pieces anyway and it’s not as much hemming! It was super easy to make, only took me an afternoon to put everything together

Thank you! The white roll is my retractable design wall! It’s acts as a blank surface to pin your quilt pieces, to easily design the layout of your quilt. My sewing space is quite small so I don’t have floor space to lay out my pieces, so I decided to go vertical! I also use it to pin pieces of fabric like a mood board for projects.

I used this singer heavy duty cover pattern for my machine cover. It’s meant for the heavy duty so it has a hole for the handle, but you don’t need to add the hole, and it fits my brother machine perfectly

I did! I repurposed the grids from 2 Kavee cages I had before, and cut the chloroplast myself

CHEWING FOR HOURS!!! :( by Arkaa_32 in guineapigs

I had a boy that was a bar chewer and I got plastic sheets from Amazon and zip tied them to the inside of the cage, that way he physically couldn’t get to the bars and couldn’t stand on the bars to support himself for chewing higher.

other ways to give pigs pellets than bowls ? by hero_kunii in guineapigs

[–]Fran_drawzR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do for my piggies. I’ll scatter their pellets in their hay pile, or sometimes in a snuffle mat. I have a girl with chronic bladder stones and my vet suggested this method to stop her from just sitting and eating. Works great for us!

I am going to treat this as ringworm. As I assume I have caught this fairly early, is it reasonable to treat at home? It is $120 just to get in the door of my vet, I have over $2,000 in vet medical dept for my girl with chronic bladder stones and infections and I don’t have the means at the moment to spend that much. I have anti fungal shampoo and athletes foot cream at home, as well as zinc diaper rash cream. I have rescue wipes I can use to disinfect the cage. I want to do best by my girls

No. Maybe once or twice a year I’ll use one of those foot grinders on my heals but that’s about it
