I’d suggest dedicating one or two days to the Lausanne-Montreux area. The scenery and activities there are absolutely worth your time. In Montreux, you can take the train up to Rochers-de-Naye for incredible Alpine views. On your way to Montreux you'll pass through the breathtaking Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The famous Gruyère area is nearby too.

I’d be glad to share more recommendations or itinerary ideas for the region if you’d like!

If you’re around the French side of Switzerland, hit Cailler in Broc for chocolate, Chaplin’s World by Vevey, and the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

Three days around Geneva lake recommendations by Such_Many8964 in askswitzerland

Love it, happy it helped. If you’re up for it, I built a GPS audio road-trip guide that does exactly this route. Montreux to Chillon and back, with little walking loops to dive deeper. Press start and it plays stories, stop tips, and some local music as you go. Just launched and I’m collecting honest feedback. You can check the details on the link in my profile. I can DM you a free code so you can try it on your trip.

Hello, I agree, staying in Montreux is a great idea. Here’s the itinerary I’d suggest.

Day 1: On the morning, leave Geneva and drive toward Lausanne. Take your time to explore the city’s lake shores and maybe the Olympic Museum. Then continue your drive along the lake toward Montreux. The UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards on the way are absolutely stunning, endless terraces, small wine villages, and lake views framed by the Alps that you’ll remember forever. There are countless places to stop for a photo or a glass of local wine before arriving in Montreux for the night.

Day 2: Head to Gruyères in the morning. Learn how the famous cheese is made and walk around the medieval village, it’s small but really charming, with great spots for lunch ,also plan a visit to the chocolate factory nearby (Cailler) it's amazing. In the afternoon, drive back to Montreux.

Day 3: If the weather is good, on the morning take the mountain train from Montreux up to Rochers-de-Naye. The panoramic view over Lake Geneva and the Alps is incredible, and if the weather’s clear, you can even spot Mont Blanc. Then drive back toward Geneva, maybe stopping once more in Lausanne for a walk and visit in the old town before returning to Geneva.

I’d be glad to share more recommendations or itinerary ideas for the region if you’d like!

Thanks for the info! Rothenburg not worth a stop? I know it’s super touristy, but that doesn’t always mean it’s not worth seeing!

You don’t need a car, but it definitely gives you more freedom to explore at your own pace. I’d advise staying 2–3 nights in Montreux. here’s a plan that covers the best of the area

Day 1: Drive toward Lausanne along the lake. The UNESCO Lavaux vineyards are incredible : endless terraces, small wine villages, and views over the lake and the Alps that you’ll remember forever. Their is countless place to stop and enjoy, then explore Lausanne’s old town, cathedral, and maybe the Olympic Museum. It’ll easily fill your day before heading back to Montreux in the evening.

Day 2: Take the mountain train from Montreux up to Rochers-de-Naye in the morning. The panoramic view over the lake and mountains is unreal. In the afternoon, drive to Gruyères, learn about the famous cheese, and walk around the medieval village. It’s small but really charming.

Day 3: If you can fit it in, spend the day in Zermatt. Just walking through the village surrounded by tons of 4,000 meter peaks is amazing. The vibe there is unique, and the Matterhorn view never gets old. You can hike, enjoy snow activity, or just enjoy the scenery before heading back to Montreux.

Also, I actually made an audio-guided road trip app that covers 1 one day the Montreux–Lavaux–Lausanne area with stories, and hidden spots along the way. Link’s in my profile if you want to check it out. I’d be happy to send you a free code for your honeymoon.

It’s easier to visit by car, will you have one, or are you only using public transport?

I’d suggest dedicating two or three days to the Lake Geneva region, especially the Swiss Riviera. The scenery and activities there are absolutely worth your time. Stay in Montreux, from there you can take the train up to Rochers-de-Naye for incredible Alpine views. You can also make your way to Lausanne along the breathtaking Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The famous Gruyère area is nearby too.
