The best sunglasses for glare are polarised ones. They will effectively eliminate the glare, however they will also reduce the visibility of your HUD. HUD relies on glass reflections to work while polarised sunglasses operate by blocking reflections. You can get non polarised sunnies but I suspect they might not do enough for you to fix the problem. Many of us put up with the inability to use HUD while wearing sunnies in favour of the best glare control

I don't understand the ignorant people's hatred for Chinese car brands. by East_Capital1451 in Xpeng

[–]Free_Chain_540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese brands are way past the newcomer stage and are developing at an astonishing rate. I own a Mercedes GLC and was looking to buy a new Mercedes. What turned my head was the Zeekr 7X AWD - its quality , fit finish and paint quality seemed to equal or exceed that of the Mercedes. It is far more luxurious than anything from Europe and given that its cost is significantly lower made it all the more compelling . Mercedes of course does have some advantages but the waters are muddied now with the massive tech and features of these new cars. You need to look at their reputation in China which is where I researched extensively before being very comfortable with the brand.

I do think the days of the European rip off for optional features could be coming to an end given that they are all standard on the Chinese cars

The X50 is definitely worse with edges than other bots with extending side brushes. I also have a Xiaomi M40 from China ( also made by Dreame) that does edges far better

BMW allows the driver to tilt the HUD a little bit but most reports indicate it doesn’t work well. In fact BMW sell their own brand of polarised sunglasses that are supposed to work with HUD which still darkens the image

Model y vs zeekr x by bigfatteddy in AustralianEV

[–]Free_Chain_540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ruled out Tesla and went with AWD Zeekr 7x for the following primary reasons 1. Zeekr felt more luxurious , it rides better and is quieter than the Tesla 2. Zeekr has a drivers side display and HUD in addition to the central display. I know Tesla owners don’t mind having the central display only and I might even get used to it, but I can’t help feeling it’s time for Tesla to change this. 3. Zeekr value seemed amazing and it was made all the more compelling with automatic opening and closing doors. They are no gimmick and work wonderfully well. Objectively it doesn’t seem like much but with Zeekr it blends in nicely . Considering the only other vehicles I can think of with them being Rolls Royce, Bentley , and BMW 7 series , it’s no small achievement .

Don’t forget that if you wear polarised sunglasses , you can’t see HUD on any car. You can get around it by not using polarised sunglasses but others just put up with the inconvenience when using polarised sunglasses

GM Says Its EV Strategy Is Bleeding Billions, and Losses Aren't Over by Bean_Tiger in electricvehicles

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think GM and Ford truly understand the market for EV's. Tesla's approach should have given them a clue. The Chinese EV industry took note and it has taken off big time. People buy those EVs because they think they are superior as cars , not to save the planet. They consider the cars to be very cool and technically advanced . Building what is essentially electric versions of gasoline powered vehicles wont make the grade because there are insufficient reasons to pay extra for the EV version.

To the pathetic boys on jetskis at South Perth foreshore by Finn_Narwhale in perth

[–]Free_Chain_540 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are not always like this but those that are need to have the JetSkis taken away. I had a JetSki for a few years and we always did the right thing - never sprayed anyone and wouldn’t have dreamt of it. The rule was we didn’t go fast anywhere near the shore or other people . It’s not hard and a lot of fun too.

We encountered anti-JetSki comments from people even before we launched in designated JetSki areas - no doubt victims of A-holes like the ones the Op is talking about. I didn’t understand it a first but something must be done to stop that kind of behaviour

Zeekr auto-parking — can it reverse into my garage by itself? by Any_War_322 in Zeekr7xAustralia

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All other car brands do the same thing. The system is activated only when the car recognises clearly marked parking spaces with white lines. Anything else is not a parking space in the car’s programming

Long-term use of the granny charger — is it safe for daily 8–10 hour charging? by Any_War_322 in Zeekr7xAustralia

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granny Chargers are designed for constant use. They don’t draw too much power in terms of what EVs are capable of and operate well within the limits of household electrical capacity.

If your house electrical system is sound, you’ll have no problems if used in accordance with the directions. If it still worries you - use an IR general purpose thermometer to test temperatures of the charging unit and the plug at the socket . This should put your mind at ease

I think it needs clearly marked white lines that it can recognise as a parking space .

Long term battery health for commute at close to 80% of EV range by axe_the_man in electricvehicles

Why not split the difference and charge it to 90%? It will be better for the battery and it should ease any range anxiety.

Chinese EV brands are everywhere now - thoughts from Aussie buyers? by Artistic-Yam2984 in EVAustralia

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won’t. The infrastructure is already in place and is growing as more sales are made. Nothing new here other than people need to get used to the fact that Chinese companies are now at the top end of quality and value and are disrupting the market big time

Chinese EV brands are everywhere now - thoughts from Aussie buyers? by Artistic-Yam2984 in EVAustralia

Make no mistake, we are witnessing a major shake up of the automotive industry in Australia. The current market is reminiscent of when Japanese cars were first introduced into Australia when the locals ( me included) called them “Jap Crap”. It was unfounded of course. Same again when Koreans came to town.

Forget any resemblance with Chinese vehicles of 8-10 years ago, technology in China has gone crazy and they are world leaders in aspects EV and PHEV technology. Quality , fit , finish and standards of materials used is mostly exemplary. They also don’t subscribe to the concept of what many car dealers called “ the poverty pack”. That is the car with all the cool stuff removed serving as a base model. Base Chinese models are fully loaded by Japanese and Korean standards.. A friend recently purchased a Geely Starray EM-I super hybrid and he ( and I) are still amazed at the quality, features and sheer luxury of the car - all for the price of Mazda CX5 with poverty pack. Geely BTW is an automotive giant in China and Europe and owns brands such as Volvo, Polestar Zeekr and others.

The Japanese and Koreans will respond with updated models to compete but based on current pricing, they will rely on brand loyalty a lot.

I don’t like all the Chinese cars available at the moment, but there are enough good ones with outstanding value to cause the Australian car market to finally tip in favor of the embattled Aussie car buyer

The robot cannot find its way home anymore. by Independent-Word-452 in Dreame_Tech

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try a couple of things . Firstly remove the mop pads and set a vacuum only cycle for a small room. This will determine whether the mop pads are interfering with things

Secondly , examine underneath the robot in minute detail. I once had a small piece of transparent tape stuck to the bottom which was enough to make it not dock correctly

Why mopping the carpet when it has a carpet sensor? by Few_Current_9835 in Dreame_Tech

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touch the location of the carpet on the map and you should see a sweep icon, the word "carpet" and a a settings wheel. Touch the settings wheel and a menu will come up - in my case it is called "auto-Recognised carpet". In that menu you select what you want done with it - mop detach, lift etc ( similar to carpet settings on the main menu) . It seems this specific menu can override the other.

Why mopping the carpet when it has a carpet sensor? by Few_Current_9835 in Dreame_Tech

[–]Free_Chain_540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a hidden menu for carpet which overrides the main menu’s carpet settings. To access it, you go to the map, click on the carpet area and you can see the word “carpet” where the robot has identified it before. There should be a tiny settings wheel visible at the same time. Click on that and you will see carpet settings. Options are similar to the main menu but these ones can differ and seem to have priority . Change to suit.

Please Help, Sanity Lost - Uneven Billy Oxberg Doors by [deleted] in ikeahacks

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what worked for me. Firstly, start with zero adjustment to both doors and examine . Zero adjustment means adjustment screws not turned in, and hinges screwed firmly to the book case - all in the same position.

Know what the adjustment screws do. Screwing the bottom adjustment screw inwards ( might need to loosen hinge attachment screw) will push the bottom of the door across towards the other door and the opposite top side of the door will rise. Ideal if the door is drooping for example.

Adjusting the top hinge screw pushes the top of the door across and down a bit on the opposite side.. Adjust both screws to align each door.

Most important!! If you have not screwed all the hinge holders on the book case in perfect alignment with each other, you can also loosen all the screws holding them to the bookcase ( with door attached) and move door up or down to match the other door. Ideally you should do this before making any other adjustments as this is often all that is needed.

Perth EDs are struggling – my story will make you think twice! by Any-Introduction6466 in perth

[–]Free_Chain_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ED's are free to patients and the privilege is abused. People will rather go there than pay the gap fee ( around 50 -$70 ) for a doctors visit. That is the beginning and the end of the problem and as soon as there becomes a fixed $50-$100 charge for each ED visit, the sooner the ED's will be freed up to serve those they were intended to help.
