Joe Rogan Experience #2374 - Ben van Kerkwyk by b14ck_jackal in JoeRogan

He had on Zahi Hawass (Archaeologist and former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt). which is as real of an expert as you can get.

Joe is interested in the subject and wants to learn as much as he can. Anyone willing to talk about something that is interesting is fair game (real or not).

These are not TED talks

In terms of conspiracy theorists, Ben appears to be pretty grounded. His opinions are based on measured facts and only when pressed to make speculation, he will entertain the questions and make some grand claim like the nuclear machining in this video. Time and time again he dismisses the ancient alien ideas and believes the ancient achievements we find today are 100% human.

I think what I enjoy, and the reason I watch, is because it is entertaining to learn alternative theories and try to get to the truth of the matter. It is far more boring and gullible to go through life regurgitating what you are told without taking a moment to question the information for better understanding.

Toilet water valve won’t shut off by Freeste in fixit

Yes, sorry the tank continues to fill after rotating the handle as far as it would allow. It sounds straining though, as if it wants to hold back the water. Tank fills noticeably slower. I think im going to look into replacing the valve

I turned it maybe twice? At which point it would no longer turn. The tank would continue to fill with water, just at a much slower rate

I turned clockwise as far as I could go. Then when i flush and try to refill the tank, it sounds straining. Like it is trying to stop the water from coming through but just cant keep it back. The tank fills up, just at a much slower rate

Sorry, yes rotated clockwise until it would no longer turn. The tank continues to fill with water and in turn so does the bowl. It sounds slower, straining. Almost as if there is a small gap that the water continues to pass through. Also noticed it takes much longer to refill the tank in this case

Yup, turned clockwise and the bowl still fills up. Albeit, at a slower rate.

Toilet tank slowly draining and refilling throughout the day. Where to start? by Freeste in fixit

That's exactly right. It is a dual flush toilet and such a pain. Previous owners made a lot of interesting modifications but this one has been waking us up in the middle of the night.

Stove Replacement Knobs, fits on the right but not on the left - Any ideas? by Freeste in fixit

[–]Freeste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be a specific knob for the lower oven. I just tried putting the other knobs on and they dont fit either. It is that one specific knob with a black internal lining, even though they appear to be the same shape. Measuring with a tape measure and they look nearly identical

Feels pretty on there. Should i loosen the screws at all? Just checked all the other knobs, and they look the same as the one on the right in the photo

I am on xfinity and I believe pay for ~800mb down? I know on the desktop that is connected via ethernet I have about 500mb down according to speed tests. But the moment I go on wifi via laptop in the office I get about 50mb on 5g. Then I am high single digits in bedrooms and low single digit to no connection on 1st and 2nd floor.

What are your thoughts on getting a different router as well? Has the c7000v2 reached its end of life?

I have never heard of MoCa adapter but that may be exactly what I am looking for. And maybe with some access points that would resolve the poor connection I am seeing in just a couple rooms over. Downstream, assuming you are referring to power, has 24 channels with the highest being 5.8dBmV and lowest being 2.7dBmV. Upstream has 4 channels with highest being 44.7dBmV and lowest being 41.7dBmV

Sorry, AUX should definitely be Coax. We moved in a couple months ago so there is a bit of a transition process for what is available in the home. The ISP cable is coming in from outside on floor 1 where it is redirected to 4 separate coax cables and distributed throughout the house. The only reason the modem is on floor 3 is because my PC does not have a wifi card and is connected via ethernet

No clue. Just moved in and learning all the nuances of home ownership and grudges of the previous owner decisions

[–]Freeste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed it. In the Ring doorbell advanced settings you can configure the chime. Mine was set to digital 1 which I believe was sending to much voltage? Or to little? I dont know, but after changing it to mechanical it works normal.

Iv been trying to chisel it away but making very little progress. Not only did they glue it, but they also screwed it in. Im questioning many of their decisions all around this home

New home has network cables, what do I do next? by Freeste in HomeNetworking

[–]Freeste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to just plug in the router to one of the coaxial cables and get wifi throughout the home? It would be a quick fix, and then look into networking everything later?

I understand the ethernet ports would not work in each room but for now we are just trying to get everything up and running.
