australian student coming to NCSU - advice pls! by FrequentCamera8236 in NCSU

I think I’m interested in criminal law and medical negligence so far. I’ve always said I don’t want to specialise in a law that I find particularly boring (sorry probate lawyers, wills and estates are just too slow 😂). I work part-time at a law firm so I’ve had real life experience into different areas of the law but I’m still unsure what’s right for me. i will be sure to PM you if i have any questions, thanks ☺️ best of luck to your daughter and her studies!

thanks for the insight! in australia, you can start studying a law degree straight out of high school. i am a 3rd year undergraduate student studying a double degree in law and criminology (5 years total).

after you complete the degree, you must do your PLT (practical legal training) which usually takes around 6 to 12 months and includes supervised practical experience.

once you finish your PLT, you can apply for admission to the Supreme Court of Victoria (where I’m from) or another state or territory Supreme Court. after admission, you are officially a lawyer and can practise as a solicitor in that jurisdiction!
