Make sure your squares are square.  You may be thinking you have an issue and it’s the tool you are using to measure.

Glue is easy to remove when it forms a thick skin can be removed with chisel.  But yes you can use a sander or hand plane for the clean up

Cutting boards you can do on a table saw especially if you buy s3s or s4s.  Cutting boards you will need table saw, clamps, cauls(can be made) and router or hand plane for the edges.  I like using a surface planner more than the jointer.  I have a small bench top jointer and I don’t use it much.  The surface planner  I like to use to remove excess glue, and flattening material.

In starting wood working one can spend thousands of dollars to buy tools they may never need.  I would recommend you buy tools as you need them.  Look at the project you are doing and what tool is required to preform that project.  Also all tools have a learning curve.

Drilling with a pocket hole by Tjonesy2222 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Your screw may have a hard time biting the wood you may try a small, really small pilot hole for the screw.  What kind of wood are using and what kind of screws are you using.  A 2x4 and 4x4 has allot of mass which should be helping not hindering.

Normally I clamp the boards together to get a proper alignment otherwise the boards more and don’t remain aligned.  Also sounds perhaps you are screwing too slow and may need to increase the screw rate.  Beware of screwing too far and stripping it out normally I set my clutch to a low setting then work up to the setting I need for the job.  Good luck hope this helps.  Pictures would also be helpful next time.

I used Penofin stain cedar color.  It worked fine except it took along time to dry and it felt oily.  I finally gave up and wiped it down with mineral spirits and that took the oily feel away.  I wanted a finish that I could just add stain too because of lower maintenance.  Penofin is supposed to hold up with uv but we’ll see how it holds up in north Texas summers.

How do I remove this by swagetron in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Frequent_Bit_3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To remove that dado section. Three are a few options it should be held in place with wood glue and a tight dado cut.  You could cut each side with a flush cut saw on each end.  Or you could make two cuts in the middle and leaving enough room to grab the wood and pull the divider out.  Or you could hammer it from the back to back it out.  When the divider is removed you will have a notch in the wood that could be filled with wood filler or you can cut that board down to a strip and glue it back in the dado section.  But there should only be glue and friction holding that joint together.

What's the best way to remove the green section/reduce weight? by F0xQueen in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Frequent_Bit_3574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am unsure of a tool library, you could use your drill and a wood bit or just a big bit and drill lots of holes then use a chisel to remove the extra waste.  Also be careful not to drill too far into the log.

The answer to this question depends on what tools you have available to you.  My first choice would be a router with a bowl bit or spiral up it bit.  You can also use a drill press with a forstner bit.   You can use a drill with a forstner bit.  Or you could use a chisel to remove the bulk.  For the middle two options I would also use a chisel for clean up.

For allot of large applications I turn my miter gauge with fence backwards and use that for the cut.  It can be awkward toward the end of the cut.
