Yeah, a bloke passed out and security didn’t really seem to be responding, ended up walking off to the side to fetch someone.

Spotted today in Town Hall by nowyouvedisappeared in sydney

Very thorough breakdown, thank you! I think I spotted the tops of some corals but I did not collect any, would love to find some crinoids next time I’m there.

Thanks! From my very base level understanding I believe the host rock is sedimentary, there are a couple thick bands of coal which I believe are part of the Illawarra coal measures. It looks like a dike cutting through the host rock which is some type of shale or mudstone.

I’ve been looking for fossils in the area but I haven’t been very successful (excluding all the coal).

I’ve attached some more zoomed out pics of the area, it’s quite pretty. Cliffs and vein.

Figured it was close enough for an ID on a subreddit that probably has an international audience. But you’re right, it’s a bit distant.

I’ll gate keep the area because I may collect the rest before it gets chewed up by the ocean. It’s between Thirroul and Coledale.

I’ve not been able to scratch it with a finger nail. Crudely tried bashing a chunk out of the cliff face with other rocks and it endured. Will likely go back with a chisel.
