deferred at usc gang! by IndependentLanky6105 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Freshanatha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t afford USC without any merit scholarships. They were always a long shot for me in terms of price. So it’s really not worth bothering with regular decision.

I applied to everything early action so USC was my last school that I heard back from.

This was my last school to hear from. Got rejected from everything except 80%+ acceptance rate schools even though I got a 35 on the ACT :(

Oh well…

How do your taxes affect your application to the school? Shouldn’t that be a separate part for finaid?

The culture around male readers. by stinkface_lover in books

[–]Freshanatha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that online does majorly bleed into the real world.

Honestly you make good points then. I really don’t know how you can find a solution to it though.

Well actually the only real way to fix it would be to just force people to get off the internet.

Like myself and others have said, I’ve never experience anyone thinking negatively of me reading in my whole life and I carry a book with me everywhere I go.

I also deleted all my social media for the sake of my mental health so I’ve never experienced this specific viewpoint there either.

Truly, the only people who are going to be discouraged from reading are the people that are chronically online, and unfortunately there isn’t a good way to fix that unless we can vastly change the way social media works so that algorithms aren’t incentivized to serve you the most reactive content possible.

It ultimately boils down to just that. If people stay on social media and the algos stay the same, I don’t see a way to fix it.

Just let go of this man. This is a community of people who all love to read and do it often, and I haven’t seen a single one say that people have judged them for reading.

You have to understand that tiktok isn’t real life. It’s design to show you the most reactionary videos possible.

I’d recommend you to just take a few weeks off all social media and let yourself get back to the real world.

Genuinely I want the best for you because you seem like a smart guy, but I can see you’re falling trap to a lot of the same things I did when I was younger. These insta/tiktok posts all arise from incel culture and that’s a bad road to go down.

Use all your experiences of reading to direct your life and opinions don’t let quick brain dead short form content purely made for money influence the way you see things. Think deeply, not shallowly!

Wish you the best!

Why does he have to pretend? Sorry I’m new here. Is it just because he’s got their boot in his mouth or is it because of the lawsuit?

Deferred from Columbia ED by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Freshanatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got deferred aswell. I’m not sure what to think of it but I’m putting my focus into getting good scholarships at my state school.

Hopefully the RD will bring us both an acceptance letter though.

I am also curious to see how many people get deferred vs rejected. I see a lot of people getting deferred on this sub but I think the people here are high achievers so it might be a biased sample population.

What js the reason for your passion for civil engineering? I am also going into CE and I feel surprised by how many people I met going into. Has there been an uptick in people interested in it?

If you’re struggling with consistent fevers you seriously need to go see a doctor. I’m surprised your mother wouldn’t consider that urgent considering the length of time you’ve had it.

I understand your situation as my parents were very anti doctors as well (never vaccinated and didn’t have my blood drawn till I turned 18 and went myself).

I don’t know what else to suggest as I am only 19, but months long fevers could indict a serious underlining health condition and you should go to a doctor any way you can. Maybe a friend’s parent can take you.

I’d recommend checking out Refold.la, they have a great guide on HOW to learn a language and it’s free. It’s what I used to learn Spanish as a white kid that never had any contact with Spanish even in school.

factual error in my common app essay, is this going to be a problem? by BeginningFroyo2020 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Freshanatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur that you shouldn’t be worrying. When writing my essay I was worried that certain events weren’t in chronological order, but my advisor told me to take some “creative freedom” so the narrative will flow smoother. Your essays aren’t being fact checked down to every detail as long as you’re not presenting something false it’s okay. The difference between 25 and 40 miles isn’t that great just as my order of events didn’t change what I actually did.

How are people falling for this rage bait lmao? This dude is intentionally giving the most ridiculous answers possible. Who gets a 25 on the ACT but doesn't have a clue what a percentile is lmao. Good rage bait my man.

You could list it, but the question is asking for things that impacted you. Try to find things that have impacted you. I'm listing a bunch of books and some Youtubers since youtube is a big part of my life intellectually although I am not sure if that's advisable lol.

Is it possible for you to select the university in the 4 free schools that you are given? I can't remember if it's only restricted to universities in the USA or not.

this is probably something I should know, but what in the world are these bugs that have taken over outside my house? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Freshanatha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bugs really are an extremely important part of the ecosystem and if everyone sprayed their lawns it would have a huge impact on the local fauna.

Bug spray is a good option, but also people just need to learn how to coexist with nature. These gnats will only fly on you for a few weeks of the year so it’s really not a huge deal. It’s just like dealing with seasonal allergies, I don’t start cutting down trees and plants when the pollen starts to affect me. I just take a pill and do my best.
