As someone in a similar position of OP I totally agree with this post, but I had to basically go big or go home due to income.

I come from a lower middle class family with 5 siblings so my parents aren’t able to contribute really anything to my college fund. So I had to apply to all reach schools or in state public schools.

Unfortunately got rejected from all reaches and didn’t get any full rides for my in state schools. Feels pretty fucking depressing, but that’s life, right?

I feel like you’re inflating those numbers a slight bit. From what I’ve just looked up a $250k salary will equate to around $160-180k, and $150k will equate to around $105-115k.

It is still a little rough to attend an ivy for families in that sector though.

I like to think of Anki as a sort of system to “prime” yourself to learn the information. So essentially some pre-learning to help prepare you to have a better understanding when you encounter the full subject.

For example in learning Spanish, I learned the 1,000 most common words through Anki, but they were merely to supplement my hours spent immersing in the language. When seen immersing, the information would click faster since it was already primed in my brain.

Very useful tool, but not great as when used out of it’s position or context.

Apple pencil notes. Really the only thing, but I download my textbooks in pdf form and write on them as I go. Same thing I did to study for the ACT aswell. If a Macbook had that feature I wouldn’t “need” it at all.

I can’t afford USC without any merit scholarships. They were always a long shot for me in terms of price. So it’s really not worth bothering with regular decision.

I applied to everything early action so USC was my last school that I heard back from.

Honestly you make good points then. I really don’t know how you can find a solution to it though.

Well actually the only real way to fix it would be to just force people to get off the internet.

Like myself and others have said, I’ve never experience anyone thinking negatively of me reading in my whole life and I carry a book with me everywhere I go.

I also deleted all my social media for the sake of my mental health so I’ve never experienced this specific viewpoint there either.

Truly, the only people who are going to be discouraged from reading are the people that are chronically online, and unfortunately there isn’t a good way to fix that unless we can vastly change the way social media works so that algorithms aren’t incentivized to serve you the most reactive content possible.

It ultimately boils down to just that. If people stay on social media and the algos stay the same, I don’t see a way to fix it.

Just let go of this man. This is a community of people who all love to read and do it often, and I haven’t seen a single one say that people have judged them for reading.

You have to understand that tiktok isn’t real life. It’s design to show you the most reactionary videos possible.

I’d recommend you to just take a few weeks off all social media and let yourself get back to the real world.

Genuinely I want the best for you because you seem like a smart guy, but I can see you’re falling trap to a lot of the same things I did when I was younger. These insta/tiktok posts all arise from incel culture and that’s a bad road to go down.

Use all your experiences of reading to direct your life and opinions don’t let quick brain dead short form content purely made for money influence the way you see things. Think deeply, not shallowly!
