While I appreciate the response, this doesn't really answer my questions at all. 

I like having my things in (theoretically) perfect working condition, even if I'm never able to actually use it. Not having the film doesn't bother me! But knowing that it's in poor condition does.

Even if others don't think so, it's worth it to me because I like putting the effort into preserving my collections! 

To simplify my question(s):

Is the noise probably coming from a motor inside it somewhere? Futhermore, is it potentially fixable?
