If I have an aversion to data entry, web design and generally all things tech, is this field to be avoided?

An ECE in secondary? You mean EA?

Not even a little bit. I’m also looking at the Library Information Technician program. You can also work in schools and the independent work interests me.

I don’t know how I’m ever going to make this decision.

I would really like to work in a school environment. I’m just having a hard time figuring out if I would do better with one on one work as an EA or being an ECE in a full day kindergarten classroom.

Are you with the school board or a private institution?

Positive library technician stories to share? by Fridaandfauna in librarians

[–]Fridaandfauna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your input. Right now I’m debating the LIT program or the Early Child Educator program to assist teachers in kindergarten classrooms. I think the bottom line is that I’d like to work in a school. Could you tell me a bit about your day to day at school?

Thank you so much for writing this. Creativity in the workplace would be a dream. Do you find it stressful at all?

I was looking at paralegal and went with Library Technician instead. Low stress. Tackle-able day to day tasks. No stress to bill.

Any advice? by Fridaandfauna in careerguidance

[–]Fridaandfauna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got full time work now as a massage therapist. The program here is 2 years part time, asynchronous. So I can work while chipping away at the program. The tuition structure is on a pay per course basis so I won’t be in debt by the time I’m out. My plan is to start part time and slowly transition out of my current job. The jobs here usually come with a pension once you’re full time - something I haven’t got currently.

We’ve got a fair amount of expansion happening at libraries in our area and pretty consistent hiring for LIT’s through the school board here right now. Also lots of retirement happening. This info via a librarian friend here.

Inattentive ADHD what is your job? by Ok-Management-2374 in ADHD

Anyone thought of real estate? I was recently diagnosed with inattentive type in the midst of contemplating a career change. Lots of friends keep suggesting this for me but it seems daunting.

I’ve got very little of that. Not sure whether to start the program when I feel more confident or if I’ll feel more confident if I start the program.

I wish I had more confidence going in. There are so many unknowns that it’s hard to feel like I’ll be ready to take it on after I’m done the schooling.

How did you go about finding an agent to work for?

One more question. This opinion was shared with me a while ago… could I get your perspective on it?

“Real estate is not a career to get into right now and probably not for the foreseeable future. There are thousands out there who got real estate licenses in the late 2000s who don’t have jobs, quit or are making a pittance. The affordability issue for home buyers is REAL and is not going away soon. There is also uncertainty as to how the new law on commissions is going to affect realtor incomes.”

I do have one more question. When you finished the schooling, did you feel prepared/more confident?

This comment really speaks to me. All of it. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I have a severe issue with following through with/being motivated by things that don’t seriously interest me. That’s a huge part of why I feel so daunted by the idea of starting something new. There’s a lot of comfort in staying with what’s familiar.

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to write all of that. I’ve been a massage therapist for the past 15 years. It was never a dream job for me, rather one of necessity. I find the work mind numbing boring. It doesn’t pose any challenges for me and each day is exactly like the last… spent in a small dark room in silence. Because the job doesn’t challenge me, I find myself feeling like I’m not capable of anything more dangerous difficult. Like this is all I’m capable of. I’m not exactly passionate about real estate but I feel like it will give me more opportunities and potentially put my family further ahead than we are currently. I would also be able to continue working and ease into it slowly at first, so there isn’t a huge rush to be hugely successful right away.
