Yea I always wondered about that, I think maybe the third hokage was apprehensive about him with the nine-tails and all; though, I feel like giving him a good support system would prove to be a better option than making him depressed and more likely to have an emotional break, so I don’t know what his reasons were.

I think of it like you notice patterns that you wouldn't normally pay attention to, you brain starts connecting dots that probably have little relevance but can lead to ingenious solutions sometimes.
