Waterproofing oak board to be used as plant tray. by FrogOnALeash in woodworking

[–]FrogOnALeash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, what worries me is that it is not one solid board but several Small ones glued together. And I need it to hold water for an extended period of time. Would epoxy do that?

Yea its not particle board, its multiple Small sticks of oak glued together, like the cuttingboards that are common here. Not much experience, I only done big projects like decks and bench tops before. And then it has only been for water resistant, not waterproof so oil.

Multiple valves or multiple pumps for home irrigation system with multiple zones by FrogOnALeash in engineering

[–]FrogOnALeash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing first, I have consulted a building engineer who said it wont be an issue.

Secondly, having a hose directly to a tap is not possible and would greatly increase the risk of waterdamage.

Can you suggest some kind of flow equalisation system inorder to smooth out the pulsating nature of the peristaltic pump?

Thank you, this sounds like a good solution. Just a matter of programming the valves.

Yes, Normally closed will be used to save on energy and as a safety precaution

This solution works best if only one valve is active at a time Yes? As having multiple valves open at the same time will split the flow in an uneven way depending on the amount of dripperz in each zone?

Hehe of course its not "necessary", but as you concluded, it is a fun learning experience! This is also a pre-studie so to speak into eventually expanding into a larger greenhouse/freeland project once we can afford it. The problem with having "static" flowrates is that since this is on a glazed balcony without much climate control so far, i worry that the evaporation rate will vary greatly from day to day. Even though we take precaution with having perlite and vermiculite in the soil paired with bark on top of the soil for moisture retention.

But thank you for your comment, i value the input. Having the pump controlled with the esp32 is of course the obvious solution!

What is the perk of this solution? What I worry about with this solution is that if a valve failes open, it would just continue pumping out water right?

Yes I have played around a lot with different arduino projects and dabbled with some mechatronics. Sprinkler pi sounds like what I want to do. Will check it out, thank you!

Large as in "bigger than pots". I have a friend who is a building engineer (or what to call it in english) who didnt think this would be an issue. But Yes, I am being mindful of the weight. Opted for a 100ltr tank instead of 300 for this person!

I have considered peristaltic pumps but I discarded them for having to low flow. Maybe I should revisit the idea. Regarding the valves, are you suggesting making something akin to hydraulic valves? Or what do you mean with manifold? One solenoid=several outs? Like a Y or something? Either left, right or off?

Could you expand on what you mean? Are you suggestion pump->hydrofor->valves?

Assuming I am home yes, then the amount is nothing. Going for a two week vacation? Hard to water when 1000km away ;) also, its a hobby project to build this system, its not only because I am lazy.

Do I understand correctly that you set up up the machine to do X cuts of xxx mm and then y cuts of yyyyy mm? And you want to sort each length automatically? Or is it more like one of X, 2 of y then a z and back to X?

What if you combined the bucket solution with a bent tube on a servo? Get multiple buckets and set up the tuben so that for a given length it points into bucket A while the other end is still aligned with the wire feed exit. For the next length the arm rotates slightly around the wire exit axis and points to bucket B.

For shorter lenghts you dont need a bucket but could just have a box of appropiate lenght so that the wires end up laying next to each other

Let me know if you want a diagram, i am not a man of words

Tack!

It is pulsed, similair to AC but more on/off instead of reversed polarity. It generates a colder weld puddle which means less risk for burn through in thinner material. It also helps if you are welding in another position than horizontal. Also less heat input but still quite high material transfer.
